Larry's 16 Days - Total Knee Replacement Rehab. (Dr. Messieh).

It took only 16 days post surgery for Larry to be at full range of motion. That's zero degrees knee extension and 130 degrees flexion. For a guy who had very poor knee bending prior to surgery this was a revelation. It was for Dr. Messieh too.

Larry recovered by using the X10 in his home in The Villages, Florida.

How to Recover from Knee Replacement in 16 Days.

Larry: My name is Larry. I'm here in The Villages, Florida. And I've had my operation 18 days ago. Total left knee replacement. Working with the X10 machine and this was my last day for that and did very well with it. I've had it 16 days, two days after the surgery. I had the Zimmer titanium cobalt knee put in there.

Larry: Dr Messieh, he's from Celebration Hospital. He did the surgery and I was real happy with that. He was a very forthright and outspoken doctor. He says, "I waited too long to have the surgery." He says, "If it's stiff before the surgery, it's gonna be stiff after the surgery." And then once the surgeon mentioned that he didn't know whether I was ever gonna be able to do much after the surgery, then I decided right then and there to get this ordered before the surgery.

Larry: Thanks to this machine, I have the full range of motion from zero to 130. I did that in the 16th day here that I've had this machine.
Yvonne: My name is Yvonne LaCross and I'm a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. Some of the struggles that I would see when I worked in outpatient physical therapy, which I did for over 16 years, a lot of patients were just struggling with tight knees in general. So no matter what we did, no matter how hard we stretched them, as physical therapists and physical therapist assistants, we would be under pressure by the surgeon to get a certain amount of range of motion in a certain amount of time. And what that would entail is stretching these patients really hard and mobilizing these knees often bringing them to tears.

Yvonne LaCrosse PTA: I've seen many avoid having an [inaudible 00:01:53] by using the X10. I've also just seen the majority of our patients who have a total knee replacement and they have the X10 from the start, within two weeks, I'd say on average we're seeing 110 to 115 degrees with zero degrees of extension.

Yvonne LaCrosse PTA: When I worked at an outpatient physical therapy clinic, two weeks following surgery, I was happy to see 90 degrees and five or 10 degrees of extension. So the X10 has just exceeded every expectation I ever had as a physical therapist assistant.

Larry: So I'm real happy. Real pleased with the results. The doctor surprised himself and not only, let alone me but he is too.
