Phil's short game secrets, and many other's like Dechambeau use the backstroke variable approach for distance calibration and control. Essentially they have set distances for how far back the putter goes for all the distance ranges (5, 10, 15 feet ect ect... ). And you have to calibrate those distances to the stimp of the greens you're currently playing on. The follow through is basically the same distance.
