I am wondering as a new progrock label in the US. I pay for the mastering should i get the mastering royalty? If so how do i orchestrate that money coming in?

Thank you very much for this information. Please, if you would, help me decipher my endeavour. I am a novice, free-lance Producer who is currently working with an un-signed artist. My background in music goes back to the 1970s - as a musician, composer, arranger, singer, songwriter, orchestrator, recording engineer - et al. This is my first time working with an artist - outside of my own projects. The artist and I have a verbal agreement as to the fee for me to turn over the Master recordings. I have spoken with other more-experienced Producers who have told me I should contract the artist to a percentage of "the publishing". Can you expound on this? This said artist will take the Master recordings and upload them on streaming platforms (Spotify, etc) I'm assuming he might use DistroKid (?). Should I monitor the streams and contract for a percentage? I've heard it takes 1 million streams to earn $1, 000. I guess what I'm really in need of is information on how a Producer collects Pay and/or royalties in this modern age of streaming - especially with an un-signed artist, and what a contract for these conditions might look like. Also - should I join BM!? Any help would be considered priceless - and I thank you in advance. I'm SURE there are many novice Producers out there who are asking themselves the same question as I am. Cheers!
