If 9700x gets higher memory support with 870x boards, it could get quite close to 7800x3d. We need a revisit of the issue in a few months I suppose.

The 9700X just doesn't make any sense at $360. It would start to be competitive at $300, but we won't see that for at least six more months. I also want to note that I'm very concerned that the upcoming 9800X3D will not be much faster than the current 7800X3D given how small of an improvement Zen 5 has been over Zen 4.

AMD marketers made a mistake on their slides - they actually wanted to tell us that 9700X compared with 7800x3D is about 13%, but SLOWER.
