How to read more books: stop watching so many youtube videos. But that is not gonna happen, is it ?

I think making time to read is the most important thing. If you're passionate about reading and books then maybe only watch one episode of that show on Netflix or have an audiobook on while you walk to work or the train station. Now I commute 2 hours a day I don't read much at home any more but I make sure that I read for that full two hours.

I never knew before that you could speed up Youtube videos. I too now feel like I've been given the time turner. What is this magic!?

i had no idea you could speed up videos, i had to do some google searching to figure it out but you just need to change the player you use for youtube and now i can watch stuff faster, this is a life changing tip for me! i spend a lot of time skipping ahead in videos but this will save me even more time, thanks!

I would love to read more audiobooks, but since English is not my native language, I'm afraid that if I speed it up I won't be able to understand anything the narrator's saying. I can't agree more with your point on distractions. There is always the computer, the phone, the TV calling you... And even though you want to read because you want to be disconnected from all this technology, it's hard to resist their power of attraction. Thank you for these great tips :).

I feel like speeding up an audiobook is taking off most of the pleasure you can get through the narration... It's good to read a lot but reading is supposed to be a fun process, not consuming as much as possible in the smallest amount of time !

Thank you for putting this together! These are some really assuring tips that I will definitely take into consideration. I never listened to audio books, but for some people I could see this as being a better way to catch up on reading. I do need to read more short story collections and I am now getting into poetry collections, but those I tend to read a few at a time, put down in favor of something else, and then return to when I feel like it. I like the idea of reading more books at once, too! -Josh

Audiobooks are a serious life hack! I just started listening to them this past month and I doubled the amount of books I read. Plus, they make sitting in traffic bearable.

Some great tips there Holly! I listen to audiobooks on 3x speed too and I love it. I listen whilst driving, cleaning, cooking and walking etc. I didn't know about the speeding up on Youtube channels but I'm definitely going to be doing that now... my life is getting so much more productive :)

Note to all Booktubers... It's not about reading as many books as you can in the shortest amount of time. The point is probably to read fewer books of better quality and understand and digest what they are saying. But as I cannot find any Booktubers over the age of about 25, this point is probably pretty much lost.

Well Im not a English native speaker. I think the first tip not only helps me improve listening skill but also gives me knowledge. I'll try it! Thank you!

English is not my native language, but I want to listen to audiobooks so I can improve my listening. I'm doing the C1/ Advanced level test in June and thought it'd be a great idea.

I wish I could read 3-4 books at the same time but I've tried and I HATE it. What I do is reading a really short book while I'm reading a long one. When I was reading A storm of swords I read "We should all be feminists", so I'm not reading about the same thing all the time.

The tip about moving to a different room away from my macbook and phone is an awesome tip, because THAT's why I don't read anywhere near as much as I'd like, because regardless of how interesting the book is, I will always think "oh, I need a moment's break.." and then 20 mins later I am mindless browsing instagram... Glad to know I am not the only one who does this. Plus I am slightly OCD and find myself re-reading almost every sentence 2-3 times, so sometimes I am a lot slower than I'd like, which can be frustrating.. does anyone else do this?? (Sorry, I know this video is from last year...)

Great video Holly! I discovered the audio speed up option on Audible early this year and it is a lifesaver! I can't go past 2 yet though, not as hardcore as you haha 😉
I also do that where I have a short story collection, a novel, and non-fiction. I don't mind if there's a mix of mediums! Haven't been doing that much recently but sure I'll get back to it with the two readathons this month!

These are all VERY helpful tips and I constantly found myself nodding along in agreement :) The only tip I don't get on with is the audiobook one - I've tried listening to audiobooks in the past but never stuck with them because if I don't see the words written down in front of me, it's like my brain doesn't retain any of the information.
