Is there a better video instructing how to operate the auto-feed? My problem is I instinctively release the trigger everytime I pause or move the trimmer to a different direction so my trim line is unintentionally advanced and pretty soon I used up the whole spool, which costs money. Is it me or is it the design that's causing me to advance the line before I need to?

What do I do if the auto feed button sticks? Its like the spring has given up.

After owning my ryobi hybrid 18v after several years i just now realized why i was going thru so much string.. each time you press the trigger to start it feeds it, if too short press the button by the motor. Never knew that part. Seems like a bad design though i start and stop all the time to save battery. Best thing i did was by a larger capacity battery off amazon with charger since the original battery gave out after a year or 2. Will just keep the motor running i guess lol

Anyone have a hack to disable the auto feed?!

That needs to be fixed. You shouldn't have to kill your battery just to save your line.

It's seems the best is to manually advance the line. With all brands of line trimmers manufacturers only give half a spool of line. Like car manufacturers they make more money money selling spare parts.

Mine doesn't auto-feed well at all, I normally have to manually do it, it gets old quick

I have many good Ryobi tools but this one is awful. Used one week and the line comes out in bunches and winds around the head. Spend 15 minutes fixing and it does it again. This is a design flaw. Very annoying! Trimmer is useless. Tried new cap. Same thing! Help anyone know if there is a fix?

How to disable auto feed:
Remove spool, wrap shaft in paper towel/tissue then enjoy it.
Still manually works but is stiff to turn.
Will do until I think of a better solution, possibly involving replacing the spring inside with a firmer one.

I'm blown away by how dumb this design is. Maybe people don't want to advance the line every time they take their finger off the trigger? Every time you use it you have to ask yourself, do I want to properly manage the battery or save the line? You can't have both.

Auto feed is a sneaky trick to make you buy more string 😒

Buy a Black & Decker. Mine works great every time I press the button on the handle.

Make sure the line isn't jammed in the spool from factory. I was confused as hell for a minute 🤣

After you release the trigger you have to listen for a "click" sound from the head. Then you can squeeze the trigger again. The click let's you know the line fed.

I found this video wondering why it's wasting so much line. Assuming the consumer is dumb and cannot have a second button to feed line is insulting. Forcing customer to choose between battery/charging cost and line cost is dishonest.
