Good video! Another feature I belive is worth pointing out is that AES can be implemented in hardware. This means that many modern desktop and mobile processors have hardware accelerated instructions to encrypt/decrypt data with AES. These are extremely fast which allow for things like full disk encryption with little impact in the disk's read/write performance.

Cryptography subject hurt my brain really bad when I'm not competent enough in statistics, but AES is one of the most fascinating stuff that I learn from the subject. I still remember my lecturer doing her PhD at that time about ways to improve AES s-box with Fibonacci numbers to make it more secure and resistant against attack. From what I learned so far, AES algorithm is publicly available so anyone can study about it but the implementation in code is really hard to understand or make sense of it if you don't have enough programming experience.

The mention of "aliens" - then the image of Mark Zuck popping up literally knocked me out of my chair laughing.

AES-256 is still strong against quantum computers. But I look forward NIST's post quantum encryption standards that should be finished around 2022, but maybe we will already get something 2021.

AES encryption is used on falcon 2 and 3 radios (military radios to be exact). F2 only has aes 128 and f3 has aes 256 besides aes 128

AES256 is one of the few encryption standards that can resist quantum computing in theory

I'm listening over my headphones and there's some noticeable thudding going on (1:19 - 1:22 and 2:28 - 2:35 for example) and each time I thought it was someone running up to me, so I'd swipe my headphones off my ears and look around like a confused meerkat a couple times.. before realizing it's in the audio itself lmao
I assume this is being recorded in some kind of apartment or basement suite where the footsteps above your head are making it into the recording, at least that's what it sounds like to me

2:58 there is actually an attack on AES-192 and AES-256 that makes them less secure than AES-128 so that could be also a reason websites use AES-128 for TLS encryption
