This guy is a great example. The only way to achieve the american dream and serious financial independence is to sell courses promising to teach people how to get rich. Time and time again, that is the theme im seeing. Whether its stocks, crypto, entrepreneurship, real estate, etc. There are no shortage of finance bros waiting to sell you videos of themselves teaching basic math or overly optimistic thought experiments! People get sucked in because of confirmation bias!

America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

It's genuinely insane. After years of working contractor jobs, I got hired as an actual employee making $65, 000. That's nearly twice the national median income of $35, 000.

And even if I save most of my money, I cannot outsave for a down payment on a house in this market.

I’ve accepted the fact that if your parents didn’t make the right choices, friends, invest heavily or got connected with important people from 10, 20, 30+ years ago to leave something for you to get ahead then your screwed😏

In the workplace nepotism and favoritism typically determine training and promotional opportunities. The management will say you have a chance, and will tell you that a position is available, and everyone competes for it thinking that merit has an impact on who they choose. More often than not, in every work place I have ever worked, the management already knows who they want before they even hold interviews.

One study in Europe found that increased work intensity, and overtime, was associated with negative career and health outcomes. Working harder and longer increased the risk of burn out, illness, absenteeism, and failed to improve career outcomes.

I remember when a $6 box of cheezits were $2.50. It was like 5 years ago WTF. There’s a reason my dream is to work for an international company out of the American base and be on international work travel in a country with tax treaties to the Us getting paid a US salary. 11:20 when I was a kid my school cleverly had districts mix wealthier areas, mid class suburbs and poor areas at the same school to kind of average out the offerings of the school. No idea how it’s zoned now but it was great.

"Working hard" doesn't mean anything. It's one of those linguistic tricks politicians, people who do social commentary, and activists use to be inclusive. Who cares whether someone "works hard"? My boss certainly doesn't care at all whether I work hard or not. He cares whether I get results. The idea that working hard is supposed to net people outcomes is high key participation trophy talk. "Reward me for my effort!" Nah. That's not how life works.
