Fun fact: the stock market crash of 1929 was not the leading cause of the Great Depression. While it did play a role in the recovery of the economy, over-farming was very problematic and important. Farmers pulled up prairie grass in order to plant more crops- little did they know, prairie grass held all of the dirt in place. Without it, dust kicked up and crops dried out, leading to the dust bowl and many more problems, including locust and rabbit infestations.

In short, disaster struck in the 1920's but there was no nerd who thought "that's dumb", and that's a problem

i had to write an essay on meritocracy (pretty much just the american dream put in fancy terms) in the great gatsby for my english class last month, and it’s so bs. no matter how hard you work, in the end it most likely won’t matter

Yeah but 12 percent of Americans will spend at least a year in the top 1% and something like 50% in the top 20%

American dream is to have the opportunity to get rich not to just be guaranteed

But you could also argue those with higher IQ often tend to be from richer families or at least slightly better than majority because it affects their education etc.

I'm not sure about the argument at the end that whether we're successful depends on our IQ and how smart people are and that there's nothing we can do about it. I think people have some control over their success. The career people choose may have some effect. A big factor may be the connections that people have. But the economic environment they grow up in may be a factor as well. How much money is in previous generations of their family may influence how well the person fares. So overall, it comes down to way more than just IQ.

Thus work smarter not harder. Don’t complain about the bare minimum person at your work. Work smarter not harder

Where did ya get that 1% statistic? There’s another source I found that shows a much higher economic mobility. It shows that, even considering inflation, kids eventually make more money than their parents. The percentage of these kids differed among economic classes, but in the bottom quintile of income 93% of kids made more money than their parents, 63% rose to a higher quintile, and 6.3% rose to the top quintile.

It’s still a good short though since due to increasing costs it’s much harder to do the American dream.

bro I was curious about the IQ thing, so I googled a bit and I couldn't find it, not even in top 10 lists. The biggest factors are age (basically younger means you have more years to earn money duh) and second is savings rate, how much money you save vs spend.

Actually. There is alot of the things you can do. Your will power slams every barrier that any law sets. This guy states it's not true. But it's a lie. Everyone can do it!
