A crash-course in Latter-day Saint terms and titles. Ep. 121

One of the hurdles you’ll have to clear as you get to know any new religion is understanding their jargon. In this episode, Dave outlines the organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and explains what various common terms and titles mean.

-Bishops try very hard to extend a calling to each member of the ward, if possible. At the very least, via the Elders Quorum or the Relief Society, every member should be given a “ministering” assignment — an opportunity to become friends with and provide support to other members of the ward. It’s a way to make sure everyone in the ward is doing OK, and a way to provide help to those who may be struggling for whatever reason.

I would love to see, hear the roles of the different quorums of the seventy. I understand that there are more then 2 quorums but the others are not well discussed in the church.

D&C 121 is my favorite section/chapter. It starts off with the whole “O God, where art Thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place?” Then it goes to “My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversities and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment, and then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high...” to “For there is appointed for every man, according as his works shall be.” Then “how long can rolling waters remain impure?” And finally, “ we have learned by sad experience that it is the nature of almost all man...”

Great presentation! I was going to included a few nitpicks, but then realized you were intentionally simplifying. Trying to explain the multiple nesting dolls of interlinked quorums can get confusing.

The word diocese comes from Latin and originally applied to areas of Roman territorial jurisdiction, sort of like the counties of today. Some Catholic dioceses still adhere to the boundaries of the ancient Roman ones they superseded.

Quick question... What was the purpose of having prophets called during Christs ministry? Both in His ministry in the Middle East, but also His ministry of the Americas? I understand a prophets importance while Jesus is away, but I don't understand why we needed them while He was here.
