Apply Conditional Formatting to Multiple Cells with a Single Formula in Excel

Excel tutorial for conditional formatting that shows you how to apply it to multiple cells at once using a single custom formula.

This tutorial walks you through the steps that you need to perform to create a custom conditional formatting formula that can be properly applied to multiple cells at once. This means that you will not have to individually apply the formulas when making custom rules for conditional formatting.

The tutorial includes 3 examples, from simple to more complex, and I walk you through every step.

You do not have to be an expert in Excel in order to understand this tutorial.

Enjoy!

Another great lesson.
I have previously learnt alot of this from your previous videos.
I really like your approach on building the conditional formula first, getting it working, anly only then copying it to conditional formula window.
I think it is important to stress when doing multiple columns or rows (or both) assume the conditional formula is always based on the top left cell of the range, which will then filled down and across to the right by the conditional formatting function in the background.
As a double check I always highlight the cells first and use conditional formatting to either turn off the highlighting or change the highlighting. The second checks both that the data is right and the conditional formatting function is also right.

conditional formatting used to be very intuitive in earlier Excel versions. On v16 I am struggeling to get a simple conditional format working - some cells will just not react as expected.

Is there a way to apply conditional formatting (Excel or Google sheets) to a list of words at one time, instead of one value at a time? Like, highlight ALL these pronouns instead of individually formatting each one.

In my case, I wanna change colour with a rage, NOT 'yes' or 'No' or a fixed number..
For that I use less than and higher than...
But still I need that rage to be stored as a reference in a different worksheet and update the rage time to time... When I change the range in reference worksheet, conditional formatting should be updated...too complex isn't it?
