Irish actress Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films, came out against cancel culture and says she was “naive” when she spoke out against JK Rowling and now has “compassion for both sides” of the argument. Plus I share some thoughts on communicating with compassion in the wake of some recent comments by Matt Walsh. Let’s get into it!

Her books are all about being brave enough to speak and act even when everyone wants to silence you. Interesting. I'm glad this actress is exercising her bravery and critical thinking.

This reminds me of Neville in the first film. He gained the winning points that allowed Griffyndor to come ahead because, as Dumbledore said: “it takes courage to stand up to one’s enemies but it takes greater courage to stand up to one’s friends.”

I went to school with Evanna. She was a few years below me but still remember the paparazzi coming to the school when it was announced she had the role. As a Harry Potter fan I thought it was the best thing to happen to me 🤪 her dad was the vice principal and her sister was in my year. They were a lovely family and all very gentle and down to earth people

There's a beautiful irony in having the actress that played the weird and anti-social outcast in the franchise come out with the most empathetic and informed conclusion about the issue.

J.k Rowling is proof that if someone has enough talent, enough love of the people and is someone who equally doesn't give a shit what her critics think; they are uncancellable.

I was sitting with my friends teenage kids and they were saying I was a transphobe because I didn’t want a fat, bearded fella using the same public loo as me just because he says he is a woman. They said my comment was offensive so I said ‘no, you’re offended’ so I held up the dogs ball and asked them what colour is was. They all said blue (it was blue) I said it was red. They laughed and said don’t be silly, we can all see it’s blue…. I pretended to cry and said they were offensive because they would not agree that it was red even though it’s blue, I want you all to say it’s red or I shall I be offended… they said it’s not the same thing…. It is!

Matt comes from the perspective of an angry father, you come from the perspective of a former liberal. Two very different viewpoints, two different methods of delivery, and we absolutely need both. Thank you for your voice Amala.

J.K. Rowling could not be more gentle in her criticism of certain aspects of the trans movement (like trans-women in women's sports). If her objections are "transphobic, " then all criticisms of the movement are and nobody is allowed to disagree at all.

I recently looked into JK's "controversial" comments. I wanted to know what the fuss was all about. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't find anything controversial. Everything she's ever said has been simple fact and common sense. She's only ever spoken out in defence of real, actual, biological women and she's never said anything hateful or cruel. But leave it to the left to make a mountain of a molehill.

I was the same, when it all first start happening with J.K I was like "aw man, I didn't realise she was like this". Didn't take me long to understand the good that J.K was trying to do. Since then she's had so many opportunities to back down but she's stuck to her beliefs and really has taken the brunt of it on the behalf of women (many of who are actively fighting with her on the subject). People will soon come to the realisation that she isn't the monster they all believe her to be.

The thing about the Matt Walsh situation that not many people are touching on is that there is a difference between gender confused teenagers who are struggling to find themselves in life, and narcissistic grifters like Mulvaney who do it for attention. One group deserves Amala’s compassionate approach, the other deserves Matt’s mean approach.

The part that makes me sad is that JK gave them all careers. She gave them the opportunity to grow and learn and play iconic characters on a set that was better than other sets for kids. They had great relationships. But because she didn’t agree with them they cut her off. To me, their acting like spoiled kids. They are ungrateful and are not even listening to her side, I’m glad evanna is. And is realizing her gratitude.

I have always have a supreme level of respect for JK Rowling. Her unauthorized biography was amazing, she is a strong, creative, and intelligent woman. All these little brats grew up on her movies and books or made millions by being in the movies based on her books and they treat her like this because she thinks only biological woman belong in women’s spaces. The sad thing is JK is absolutely right.

I jumped on the hate JK train, until I took the time to look into it myself instead of just trusting the popular narrative. Good for Luna, good for JK, good for you! Love this channel. 🙏🏼💜

If it wasn’t for Rowling, Evanna may not even *be* here. JK Rowling saved her life and she’s said as such. I’m so proud of Evanna for standing up and speaking

I think it's important to have compassionate conservatives like you and hard-truth conservatives like Matt Walsh. Both of your different styles will speak to different types of people. I want you to continue being you and Matt to continue being Matt.

This is genuinely brave and kind of her. I hope the internet trolls don’t come for her

It's just the audacity of these people that get me, JK Rowling not only mentored all of these kids, she made them have the career they had now. They owe everything to her and it's just so sickening that people that should be appreciative are now trying to punch you down so they can get above you, it just shows that they're users at the end of the day.

I remember being confused while going through puberty about some things. As I got older, I figured things out and am so glad no one forced me to go through changes at that age that I now know is not who I wanted to be.
