iPad 10th gen vs iPad Air - An Easy Choice!

After 4 years, the contemporary iPad lineup all looks fairly homogeneous, with the iPad 10th generation (2022), iPad Air (2022) and iPad Pro M2 sporting relatively the same design language, lack of home button and slab/tab look introduced with the 3rd generation iPad Pros back in 2018. This is why now more than ever, it's important to differentiate each model, specifically the iPad 10th gen and iPad Air 4th and 5th generations. In this video I compare the new, "regular" or baseline iPad to the current generation Air and 2020 Air in order to help you decide which variant will give you the best bang for your buck!

I ordered the 10 because I couldn't care less about the pencil debacle. I LOVE that it has a usb-c port now and the horizontal front cam. Adapters are cheap.

I’ve been using the iPad Air 5 for 9 days now and so far it’s amazing….i just love the quality and the speed and how easy i can do my school work and art. It is very suitable for people who want to use it instead of a laptop and i love everything about it I really recommend it and i hope to see more iPads like this.

I purchased the IPad 10th generation and honestly it’s a great device. You can always get a 3rd party stylus and keyboard folio with touchpad. Both accessories for me cost around $42 on Amazon and both work amazingly with my IPad.

i just got the 10 and i love it, i am more of a tech guy so i was worried about stuff like the 2nd gen pencil and the M1 chip in the air but honestly the 10 is amazing

I happened to get a refurbished IPad Air 4 and this video reinforced my decision that it was the right choice. I mostly stream videos & music but I also use it to type long emails, edit some photos, or create flyers. The small things like the laminated display, the 2nd gen Apple Pencil, and faster transfer speeds all add to that better quality of life.

Just in case nobody knows, you can use the iPad just fine without a pencil, you can use any “tech” stylus that is made for touch screens, and in my experience I can write notes just fine on my iPad 10, great way to save $100

I am one, maybe the only one, that is not bothered at all with using the first pencil. For the amount of times I actually use it, it sure doesn’t call for an upgrade. I just wish the new iPad started at more than 64gb.

As an early buyer of the first generation of the Apple Pencil, you can imagine how teed off I was when Apple very quickly brought out the 2nd gen. Pencil.

Use a Logitech’ crayon pencil instead of a apple pencils and that also takes care of the dongle for the 10th gen iPad

The only reasons to pick the iPad 10 over the iPad Air 4 are if you already have a 1st gen Apple Pencil or if the front camera placement in all the other iPads REALLY irks you.

I know the iPad Air makes the most sense, but I'm loving the colors of the iPad 10

Recently purchased the iPad Air 5th generation. Love it and it is my first iPad ever after many years.
My old iPad had 32 Gb of memory and can’t use safari anymore. Cant play any games on it or anything.

This new one is amazing.

apple is the best company in making you feel bad for not spending more money on the higher end models (ie. no laminated glass and pencil 1 support in this case)

Very good video Noah. I agree they really screwed up with the Apple pencil first generation. I loved the pink but couldn't handle the screen but mostly the pencil.

Well now - months later, the 10 definitely makes a lot more sense
than it did at the time Noah created his usual excellent video.
Because - of course - it’s much cheaper now lol!
I picked up the iPad 10 on eBay for $340 basically brand new.
And since I have other iPads compatible with my first gen pencil
my pencil still works perfectly fine here.
( yea that dongle was a terrible and ridiculous idea -but I’m sure it was just Apple being Apple and figuring how to make a few extra bucks!)
So far I’m happy with it!
The design is sleek and nice - a nice larger version of my mini 6.
It’s faster, has a better screen and much better sound than the 9 or even some of my old pros.
The cameras are also better than any other iPad I’ve ever owned.
And so far it has handled every task, game or app I’ve thrown at it quickly and with no issues.
So I have to say - I’m a big iPad guy who has owned a lot of them
and I’m really not sure why there is such huge negativity around this model.
Pencil 2?
Don’t own it - so it’s no issue lol
Non laminated screen?
I have iPads with both and have never understood why that’s even a big deal.
Non laminated screens are perfectly fine with me.
The main problem was really the price - and that’s not as much of an issue now that you can usually find it much cheaper.
I really think this is a great iPad for most people!
( but definitely do NOT pay $449 for it -
lots of sales and deals out there…)

i love the new colors and lower price, but i use the pencil way too often to bother with the adapter/cable situation. nothing i do pushes the M1 chip at all, but it should ensure the air 5 lasts a long time and runs everything smoothly 🔥

I got the 10th gen in yellow with 256gb storage. The color is gorgeous.

That is a school kid's mistake. Once you start saying, pay extra for the Air, then you are a hypocrite by not saying, then pay a bit extra for the Pro!

My suggestion is wait for some discounts on the iPad 10 and get that, especially if you do not use the Pencil or keyboard, which is the majority of core users. If your budget is restricted, get the iPad 9. Also, take care who you are buying this for. If it is for a child, then the non-laminated iPad 9/10 are the essential choices as they cost about $15 to repair a broken screen rather than $150 on the Air.

The price confusion is due to the timing of release cycles. When the new iPad Air arrives it will be $700 base and the iPad 10 will be $350. That is when creators will understand what is going on.
