Moreno – one of only three artists to be honored with Academy®, Emmy®, GRAMMY®, Tony® and Peabody Awards – also serves as one of the film’s executive producers.

This is the first Hollywood movie that I can confidently call a *reprise* rather than a remake.

Something I appreciate about this movie is how it's NOT a shot for shot remake of the classic; that would've been a disaster. It feels much more like another production of it instead of a remake of the original movie. Spielberg did his own thing with it and added his own touch to it all. Lots of the songs and scenes are in different locations (except for songs like this where the setting is super important). It stands on its own

I truly love the beginning interlude in this orchestration of the balcony scene. Dudamel conducts a soft muted reprise of “Maria “ as the young lovers begin awkward small talk. I don’t think this was ever part of the original Broadway recording or the 1961 movie. It’s really a beautiful and moving transition before “Tonight “. It wasn’t done before, but it works so well. I’m not happy with all of Spielberg and Kushner’s decisions on this remake, but this one is magnificent and better than what came before.

When I watched Spielbergs movie like West Side Story, I thought of Animanics and Pinky And The Brain as my experience.
