Tampa Bay and Sarasota awoke Thursday to assess damage from Hurricane Milton, which made landfall near Siesta Key in Sarasota County as a Category 3 Wednesday night. In the hours that followed, it tore across the state, leaving millions of Floridians without power.

The storm pounded the state on three fronts overnight into Thursday.

The north side of Milton dumped incredible amounts of fresh water — around 17 inches in parts of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties in just six hours. This led the National Weather Service to declare a rare flash flood emergency. In Pinellas, extreme wind uprooted large trees, ripped off a section of the roof at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg and toppled a massive construction crane into a downtown building nearby.
