I was with a woman for 4 years. My paternal grandmother passed away, and my grandfather gave me her engagement ring and wedding band, as well as the ring off his finger to one day propose to my future wife.

The girl I mentioned was not interested in the family heirloom (we had open discussions about marriage & she knew I had the ring). She said it felt dated, but also swore she didn’t care about the value of a ring, it was the thought that counts (the Diamond is 1.5ct). I got my grandfathers permission to take the stones out of my grandmothers setting and have something customized; a way that we could make it more modern and fit to her preferences. Well, the truth eventually came out that she didn’t think it was a big enough diamond.

That was the final nail in the coffin; I learned all I needed to from that one conversation.

I'm an old guy. My parents were born just after the first world war. What seems to be missing in today's conversation in relation to money is the two aspects of it. The offensive part (the getting the money), and the defensive part of it (the stretching the money). Making money doesn't give you anything if you can't use it properly. This can be with investing, not buying stuff when it can be made at home or repaired. If you see the couple as a team, things are fine. If you fix your expectations of who does what, there will be problems on the horizon.

That's why I think women that say "I want him at my level" are a joke. Just because we aren't making half a million, doesn't mean we suck. And they need to quit saying we're intimidated by success. That's been debunked for a long time!

Just like men dating women just for looks and just being an ATM are a joke as well. Have some freaking self respect! Just have integrity and do what you say you're gonna do!

Men want (1) peace, (2) respect/admiration, and (3) kindness/fun/sex/good conversations, in that order. I would date a woman who makes more money than me if she were fit, mature, respectful, and kind. What emasculates men is not acknowledging or being grateful for what they bring to the table. What turns men off is either (1) the self-obsessed "I-require-princess-treatment 24/7" attitude or (2) the "boss babe" attitude.
