Imagine if Alaska had stayed Russian, and when the Russian Revolution happened, the tsar fled to Alaska. That's an alternate history I would love to read.

Russia gave up Alaska because

•Russia give Alaska up

• Russia let Alaska Down

• Russia run around and dessert Alaska

• Russia make Alaska Cry

• Russia say goodbye

• Russia tell a lie and hurt Alaska

Being born and raised and still living in Alaska, I can confirm that there are lots of orthodox churches, Russian names, and a huge independence movement that has only been growing the past couple years. It really kicked off during covid 19 and when the US was dealing with widespread protests and riots.

If Russia had held Alaska, it likely would’ve become an independent country during the civil war with the white army fleeing there Taiwan style since no way the reds would’ve been able to take Alaska cause that would’ve meant immediate and full British and American intervention

As a descendant of Inupiaq Eskimos, I have been living and studying this history all my life. In a way, there are two histories of how Alaska came to be American – and two perspectives. I think Russia did the right thing for them time as they could never defend Alaska form British or America . And only a few hundred people lived their . Plus Russia was under monarchy who needed money to sustain their empire.

"John Muir, the famous naturalist, wrote in his journal that you should never go to Alaska as a young man because you'll never be satisfied with any other place as long as you live. And there's a lot of truth to that"

Russians expanded their trade route and northern territory through Northern Sea Route on Arctic Ocean. But the route was blocked by ice in winter then Russians quit the northern expansion (the route had been important until Siberian railway completed) and started looking for a southern port which isn't frozen in winter.
