"Prigozhin became the image of the true Russian patriot but who was also willing to speak truth to power."

Russians need a "hero" to express their "dissatisfaction" with Putin as they cling onto the deceased Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, says Mark Galeotti.

Nothing less than full return of Ukraine's borders to 1991 will teach Putler a lesson he richly needs. Chamberlain proved dictators cannot be appeased. Anyone simply wanting an immediate stop to fighting and giving Putler something is setting the World up for a much larger battle in a few years.

I don't care if I'm without internet connectivity, running water or electricity, I'm not withdrawing support for Ukraine.

For 10-15 years, the West has had life complicated by all Russia's inherited Soviet equipment. For 10-15 years, we've wondered how to get rid of it without starting WW3. Current Russia Ukraine war, which has destroyed most of Russia's usable, stored, military equipment, has been a massive success for NATO

Prigozhin scenario is the only window into Putin-Russia dynamics. both interviewer and interviewee are putting down equal to the best 1 hr u can view on youtube on this topic.

Thanks for a great discussion. Mark, in my opinion, presents these dynamics in a balanced, articulate fashion that is appreciated.

In Africa we know Progozhin as the head of the Wagner mercenaries - some were happy that he died and some called it a tragedy

now after prigozhin, you have a power struggle between Patrushev/FSB/Rosgvardia vs. Shoigu/GRU/Russian army. Still ongoing I think however the FSB has won for now with Shoigu's close allies going to jail. and Shoigu losing his coveted Defense minister position to a economist.

I'm kinda miffed that Pregohzin (spelling???) stopped his march on Moscow, surely he had to know that Putin wouldn't forgive him! I had my 🍿 ready and was waiting for the fur to fly! I think Moscow had a 60% chance of falling to him!!👍😁

Prigozhin was a fall guy. He knew his time was up.

I’m not totally convinced Putin was responsible for the bomb on Prigohzin’s plane, Shoigu had enough influence and plenty of motive, how do we know it wasn’t his doing?
But then again they’re all as bad as each other, so who cares?
When Pootin is finally ousted, let’s hope they remember their REAL heroes.
Like Alexei Navalny.

The only qualification needed is loyalty. Thankfully putin puts these people in prominent roles- if they selected qualified individuals- they'd be more successful.

These insinuations are older than the war in Ukraine and the guy is still there pulling the strings.
