Stop Learning Too Many Programming Languages | Being A Software Engineer

My opinion when it comes to learning too many things all at once.

I’ve been in that situation and based on my experience, finding jobs became difficult because most companies are looking for people who have a specialty or mastery of a singular skill.

My advice is to stick to one thing and disregard the noise.

Unfortunately you often NEED lots of languages but I agree that you should focus on one language at a given time and then move on if you need it for another project. I always try to focus on what's hot in the market and teach myself the basics with a new project.

Honestly I really needed this. I'm a newbie just 5 months in. I started learning PHP and some Laravel. All everyone around me says is how dead php is and how I'm wasting my time

Focusing on a specific stack of technologies is definitely better than learning many things. Even if you don't like your stack in the future you'll learn new one much easier since you have experience in your past.

I am getting comfortable with reactjs and following with nodejs, but I want to learn another language like java( for some reason I saw a tutorial and was having fun learning it, but I kept forgetting some stuff of js so I came back)

Hi CodeRev, I was also one of those people where I heard Swift is the best, Learn Java, learn C#. I did this a couple of months learning different things. I started learning Python, C, Java, C# and even Kotlin. Until finally just focused on JavaScript. I even did for 1-2 months of PHP which I love, but in NYC I haven’t gotten lucky on the job postings for PHP, guess I will check Laravel Developer? But my skills in PHP are very beginner my strength is in JavaScript. Thanks for sharing.

People say the same thing about Ruby being dead, that’s why there’s a shortage of Ruby developers and now it’s one of the highest paying languages.

im surprised no one mentioned the hickey on his neck in the comments 🤔 im fairly new to coding, and I feel like I haven't mastered any languages, i started with python then java now js, i forgot a lot of python. I self learned most of it, and am now doing a coding bootcamp, I'm nervous that I won't be taken seriously in the job market as I don't have a degree, so I was thinking of relearning some python and java after my bootcamps over thinking that it might help? what do you think?

I am a Python developer. I primarily use Django to develop backend services. But the industry standard is Java, when it comes to developing scalable web applications. At least it is the most preferred language amongst the MNCs. Is it advisable to stick to Python or learn a language and its relevant stacks which are preferred by the industry? I will be glad if some suggestions are provided.
