This wasn't what I was looking for, but I stuck with every moment because it really helped me to get acquainted with the basics. I'm just trying to figure out how to total hours in a column, like 2.5 vs. 2 1/2 hrs. and how to get those added up in a column. Might you know how I'd do this? Thanks for your helpful video!

Thank you for showing the "why & how" of the fields, I was able to understand and so customise my timesheets.

I would love to see a movie of a time tracker combined with a totally hours worked for each month. If you have time to make it i would appriciate it, like a time stamp system for several of "users".

Keep making this awesome "how to'"s!

little problem for you: Try calculating time difference without getting a bizarre answer with this time in time out.

Time in: 10:00pm
Time out: 2:00am

Let me know what you come up with because it would definitely help me out.

Thank you!

Edit:

After hrs of searching for something that solves my problem/ issue I found this video and simply used the formula given in it on Google Sheets.

It will not give you crazy numbers if you are going past 12:00AM and doing a time difference between PM.

Set the difference column format to duration and insert the formula

Set your in time to =now

Set your out time to =now when you're done doing whatever activity and you will be golden.

You're welcome in advance to whoever reads lol I guess you can thank the guy Chris in the video though not me...

Thank you Timothy! That saved me a lot of time.

It was somewhat helpful but it would be a little bit more helpful if you could just go through and set it up from start to finish instead of so many different options just show how to do it.

Omg... -_-"
I was trying to find a way to make the function automagically know it was supposed to calculate the two cells to the left of it to get the hours, because I wanted every row to show each workhour per day separately. (bad explanation but yeh)
And you're like "Let's just paste this in there..."
*BAM* *BAM* *BAM* Done!
It was that easy? Seriously?

I had no idea it changed from A1:B1 to A2:B2 by itself!

I have a question regarding time sheets and how to automatically deduct a set period of time if the time spans a predetermined clock time. I am looking for a formula that can deduct time form a time sum. My time card has a start time and an end time where I sum the two to get hours spent on an activity during my work day. One problem I have is that if the start and end times of the activity spans my lunch period the time sum is incorrect in that it does not deduct 30 minutes for lunch break. For example, I start an activity at 11:00am and finish at 1:00pm my formula shows 2 hours on the activity but I took a 30 minute break in that time so the sum needs to show 1 1/2 hours. I am trying to develop a formula that calculates time start to stop but deducts 30 minutes only if the start stop passes through a specific time period, in this case 12:00pm to 12:30pm. can you point to a possible solution?

So I'm scheduling for my employees and each tile has their shift time, ei: "9am-5pm" and I would like that box to represent the numerical value *7* so that I can add up all the hours throughout the week and it will show me the total hours

Just choose "duration" in the format... 🙂

My hours column came out negative. I had to subtract the time in from the time out to make it positive...but the hours were still off. what am I doing wrong.?

Thank you . I have a question about subtracting a number(s) from the total. Example 8.5 (h:m) - 0.5 (h:m). Essentially, this is adding the planned employee's hours and subtracting the planned 30 minute lunch daily.

Formula =text(column b:row 1- column a:row 1, "hh:mm") works.

...but how do we subtract for the 30 minutes time from this??....

Thank you for your time and consideration,

David

Is there a way to sync date/time to input from a calendar to Google Sheets?

Hello Timothy. Thanks for your videos. I am struggling with making time calculations in a google sheet and thought you could help me. I appreciate any help you can provide.

I am creating an itinerary for a bus tour which will stop and visit multiple locations.

I need to give the spreadsheet to our team leader and tour guide. I need to create entries for…
departure time
travel duration
visiting time at location
departure time
travel duration to next location
departure time
Etc etc…

I want to use formulas so that if the team leader needs to extend one of those parameters, s/he can by editing the spreadsheet and have the rest of the data be recalculated. Does that make sense?

How do I make this happen?
