How FAST Can You Run A VERTICAL Kilometre?

For some of us, hill reps are the worst part of our training, so imagine running as fast as you can up an incline of at least 1000 feet! Friend of The Running Channel and trail running enthusiast Angus takes us with him as pits himself against George Peak in South Africa, running the Vertical Kilometre.

↓↓ Would you ever take on the Vertical Kilometre? What’s the craziest running experience you’ve ever had? ↓↓

This was a great idea for a video! Never heard about this type of race. Enjoyed watching this and learning.

lol, doing a VK seems pretty brutal- maybe one day! Have to say I've known a few South Africans and they have all been super friendly and happy folk. More from Angus please.

Would love some a training video about getting better at elevation gain...not form per se, but how to build better endurance for big climbs...especially if you live in flatland.

My brother in law and I participated in a race like this a few years ago, although the vertical gain was «only» 650 meters over a 4.8 km course. I thought this wouldn’t be too bad, but I ended up coming in second to last. My brother in law was dead last. Even so we weren’t disappointed. The race was surprisingly hard, and both of us felt that we had gone all out on done our very best. So we went to the afterparty being real happy with our results. Everybody should try a race like this once.

I remember seeing Angus on a few videos on Sweat Elite where he filmed some amazing content in Kenya. Nice to see him here.

Gotta be honest, when I clicked play and Angus popped up, I thought I'd uninentionally clicked on a Sweat Elite video! Great to see a collaboration between people from my two favourite YouTube channels.

Loved this video, I always thought vertical miles were lessons in boredom and torture- for instance slogging up a never ending staircase up a mountainside. I had zero interest. But watching him do an actual varied (though brutal) trail run was an eye opener! Loved his presentation, going to hunt his videos down now!

The most elevation gain that I've ever had in one run is 237 it was bloody horrible.
