Systemic factors in wound care involves knowing how different patient characteristics effect wound healing.

How do each of the following effect wound healing?

Gender

Disease
Nutrition
Alcohol
Smoking

You may say, yeah, smoking is bad for wounds...but why? What does nutrition have to do with wounds? Age and gender?

We're going to discuss the why for each of these risk factors and discuss the underlying mechanisms with respect to the stages of wound healing.

This is so helpful! I was wondering why my port scar was taking so long to heal but sure enough I started adriamycin within a week of having my surgery so this makes sense. I started glutamine supplementation 2 months post surgery and now the healing is back on track!

In terms of alcohol, the negative influence might happen even by small beer glass? Or was that related to strong alcohol?
