Do Wounds Heal Faster Covered Or Uncovered?

The notion that leaving a wound exposed to air helps with faster healing is a misconception. Except for minor cuts, bruises, or scrapes, it’s always best to cover your wounds.

In 1962, researcher George Winters once and for all quashed the debate about whether to cover the wounds or leave them open. He compared wound healing in dry and moist environments and found the latter to be much better. The paper he published in Nature notes that “It has been found that epithelization is retarded by the dry scab which normally covers a superficial wound, and if the formation of the scab is prevented, the rate of epithelization is markedly increased.”

Further research has shown that a moist environment also accelerates the building of new blood vessels in the injured area (angiogenesis), in addition to old and damaged tissues being broken down and cleaned away, making way for new cells. Covering a wound also significantly reduces the chances of infection, as it keeps germs, dirt, and (potentially unclean) water from coming in contact with the injury.

I got really bad road rashes a few years ago riding my electric unicycle. Well, I did what the modern medical doctors said to do, wash the wound with water with a bit of soap. Then, applied neoprene and placed bandages over it. Well, it didn't work very well. Puss was coming out, I had to change the bandages like 10 times a day. It looked terrible. After two days of doing this, I just let it scab. No more bandages, no more puss/drainage. I sprayed it with hydrogen peroxide 2-3 times a day, and it healed quickly. It was simple. I actually think h202 speeds up the healing process, just my opinion though.

Not always the case because it can also keep to much moisture in which causes hyper granulation, then you got a whole other problem to deal with. Its a fine line between to much moisture or not enough.

Always cover as to kept " moist " and take ascorbic acid vitamin C . As in this form you can easily get one does of 1000 mg . As for a lasceration of my top lip . After sutures were applied, I daily put A & D ointment . When it was asorbed, put more and didn't have any scarring .

I fell from my bike

Had two minor but bleeding injuries on my hands and a much more serious road rash on my right arm

Doctors and nurses said it was better to not cover the hand injuries but they still dressed my arm wound

Two and a half weeks later, my hand wounds are nearly healed, albeit after scabs and some healing cream

The arm wound still needs dressing every two days by a nurse

Even if I'm glad that the arm wound was dressed in the beginning, I'm starting to wonder if its not slowing down healing

That said, given how bad the road rash was, there was no way that wound could have been left undressed like that for practical reasons like wearing a long arm shirt for instance

I got a heater hurn in half my b*tt a few days ago. It's not a very deep burn, and i have no health insurance or money for any over the counter meds.

I cooled the burn with a shower head for almost 20 minutes, and I have been covering the wound every day with CLING WRAP. and washing it twice daily. I have not been applying anything on the wound, including any disinfectant, as I dont have none.

2 days later, it started to hurt less when sitting, and the bubbles ozzed something watery under the cling wrap. Now it has started to itch, and some parts have peeled off skin from where the bubbles were, and now there's pinkish areas on some parts of the wound.

❗️QUESTION: Are there any natural remedies I can use to help with the healing process❔️❔️

I would value your response. 🙏🙏
