How to biohack your cells to fight cancer - Greg Foot

Check out the science of biohacking, where biologists go into a patient’s genetic code and reprogram their immune system to recognize and fight cancer cells.

--

The human body is made up of about 30 trillion cells that carry a code which has been duplicated over and over for billions of years - with varying degrees of accuracy. So what happens when the system breaks down and the machinery turns on itself, leading to cancer? Greg Foot dives into the science of how biologists are biohacking the human body to try to fix the seemingly unfixable.

Lesson by Greg Foot, directed by Pierangelo Pirak.

This video was by far the best TED-Ed video I've ever seen. You've struck gold

I'm a molecular biologist and IMO the best thing about this video, obviously aside from the top-notch animation and script, is that it conveyed the important scientific concepts as effectively to a 10-year old as it did to a professional scientific researcher. The consistent use of computer science and robotics analogies all throughout was genius. Absolute great work, TED-Ed!

Greg this was flipping amazing. I watch so many Ted Ed videos and this was the best by a mile. Love that you mentioned cardiologists first hehe😂 More importantly UCL as well! Woohoo! Animation was way too good for an educational video, would've been at home in a Netflix anime series. Really really fantastic video.

My aunt’s mom has cancer. They were so excited to celebrate her birthday but she started feeling ill and later found out it was cancer. The doctors have said that there’s nothing left they can do and it honestly breaks my heart. I just hope she makes it for one last Christmas and hopefully a new year. Currently my family is selling food so they can raise some money (not sure whether they started a go fund me though) So this video makes me bittersweet for one it’s amazing that better treatment for cancer is being made and there’s even talk of a possible cure in 10-20 years, however it’s heartbreaking that my aunt’s mom won’t see or receive such treatment 😢 I have met her a few times but it still breaks my heart to know that she’s in pain and that she won’t see her baby granddaughter grow unlike the rest of her older grandchildren. Stay safe everyone and go to the doctor, get checked, do your yearly needed doctor checks. 🙏🏼

That sounds like the COOLEST job occupation:

"What degree did you get from Wash U?"
"I'm a biohacker."
