If Ned had lived and joined Stannis, it would have been over quickly for the Lannisters. Ned would bring the North, Riverlands, and the Vale into Stannis's camp, and Renly respected Ned much more than he respected his brother. If Renly bent the knee and still married Margery Tyrell, that's almost all of the kingdoms against the Westerlands and crownlands. Dorn would remain neutral, but I could see Ned convincing Oberyn to help avenge his sister. Ned, more than Bobby B. Or Jon Aryn held the 7 kingdoms together. And yet Cersei and Joffery were too vain and stupid to see that.

Stannis is the real goat. I Iove how he keeps going forward after loosing nearly everything at Blackwater. And he seems to be more focused at the battle against the Boltons. He made some bad decisions in book 2 which cost him the victory.

Stannis Baratheon was a man to be feared and respected because just like Tywin, he was virtually joyless, never smiled, and his only true satisfaction in life came from getting his job done, regardless of mercy, respect, or consideration!

I hate how the show Stannis. The book Stannis was amazing! He was like King Jaeharys reborn. He cared about the people, he was honorable and he was a great family man. The thought of burning his daughter alive would never even cross his mind. He didn't care that she's a girl, he didn't care that she had greyscale. He loves her very much and he wanted her to be the queen. The show ruined him

Stannis is like the man Tywin wanted to be seen as. Tywin presented himself as a man who never indulged like his son despite being so indulgent he bedded the same girl as his son. Stannis meanwhile really doesn't indulge. He refuses to. Really interesting contrast there to me.
