My dad served as an officer in Taiwan 2 decades ago and he joked about how the Taiwanese military would be too incompetent to fight. Crazy how much has changed.

Even though Taiwan is a sensitive topic to certain people and countries, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t learn about it. Education applies to all subjects.

I'm actually in Taiwan right now teaching English, and I think this is a great video. As a side note, if you ever get the chance to come here, check out military depot stores. Since basically everyone serves in the military they don't restrict access to military equipment, and you can buy everything from uniforms to hats to patches and MREs.

When I was in ROTC, we had a bunch of Taiwanese officer candidates come and spend a semester with us. Haven't seen a group of higher motivated people since then.

As a Taiwanese, I suggest you to find someone who can read Chinese reports/newspapers/on-line symposiums, you will see very different perspectives about Taiwan's military... We have serious problems in communities and military organization, not even mentioning issues in training, strategic thinking, logistics... In facing the big challenge posted by China's political and military capability, I don't feel like we're ready for fighting and protecting ourselves. There is a long path in front of us...

So glad that Armchair Historian is recently making videos about new topics. His usual recent videos were just oversaturated with ww2 topics.

Funny how a country recognized by very few others is one of the most protected and militarized in the world.

Seeing that photo of bitter enemies Chang Kai-Sheik and Mao Zedong toasting to the defeat of Japan in 1945 when they went back to fighting against each other immediately afterwards is quite surreal.

Do a Chinese civil war remake/updated version, I think it would be a big hit.

It’s great you talk about countries like Taiwan, as a European I barely have any information about the island and it’s great to see more about and to be taught about its people and it’s history!

Thank you for shedding light on the situation in Taiwan.
It means a lot to us.

Great to see this video. I recently met with a bunch of Taiwanese exchange cadets at my military colleges. One was a tank machine gunner, one is special forces, and the last is fresh out of high school. It’s great to understand how their military works
