Silicon shield: Could Taiwan’s semiconductor industry protect it against invasion by China?

The small island nation of Taiwan is a technological giant. It produces 60 per cent of semiconductor chips worldwide and almost 90 per cent of the world’s advanced semiconductor chips.

But growing tensions with Beijing are now threatening the semiconductor supply, and experts warn that could have a massive impact on the world economy.

Semiconductors are used to power everything from consumer goods, such as cameras and refrigerators, to the defence systems militaries rely on to keep their countries safe.

Some experts believe that Taiwan’s powerful semiconductor industry – what some refer to as its “silicon shield” – could protect it from invasion by China. Jeff Semple explains.

It doesn't matter how many times the Chinese regime repeats the *lies, *
or how *angry* it pretends to be,
- Taiwan 🇹🇼 is still a sovereign country.

Canada's R&D is being shipped to another country rather than developing it for Canada's prosperity.

the real news would be
Why does the USA have 400 military bases surrounding China ?
Why is the USA led NATO surrounding Russia ?
Why does the USA have 800-1, 000 military bases world wide ?

Beijing isn't threatening Taiwan - Washington is threatening Taiwan by interfering in China's peaceful reunification of Taiwan. You cannot distort the truth. Taiwan is a province of China, and always will be according to international law ⚖️ signed in 1972 by 🇺🇲🇨🇳

Jealousy and envy are soul-enemies:
China has built around 26, 000 miles (42, 000 kilometers) of dedicated high-speed railways since 2008 and plans to top 43, 000 miles (70, 000 kilometers) by 2035. Meanwhile, the United States has just 375 route-miles of track cleared for operation at more than 100 mph. - CNN, Apr 19, 2023

Definitely NO, only re-unification of China can protect the semiconductor industry in tw island.

Nope and it never will. The prc has built up their own semiconductor industry and has been actively poaching Taiwanese TSMC employees for years knowing that any invasion of Taiwan will destroy the Taiwanese chip industry.
Taiwan's silicone shield was circumvented many years ago. Hence the prc confidence and increased hostilities.
TSMC knows this as well, hence why they are building FABS in the west.
