Me playing guitar for 3 years and not discovering “metronome”: 🤯

Learning to keep in time with a metronome is my favorite exercise, you get a chance to jam a bit while getting good use from it, then you play along with a song and it feels alot more smooth.

I just got an old mechanical metronome for Christmas and it was a great gift. I've used electronic ones for years but this has so much more character that it's made basic practice more fun.

"I don't want to be helped" is incredibly sad. This resonates.

But also, sometimes getting help hurts.

Been avoiding metronome since I started a year ago. Time to invest myself to some music theory and metronome.

Too accurate, I started in drumming, so metronome was a must. Learning guitar alongside that journey and later getting heavily into it, along with usingthe metronome already, is what I attribute to my progression.
In fact in marching band wed have parts where wed have a met running and the director would cut it. Then start it at a slower or faster so many measures later and we were supposed to slow down perfectly to it. Taught me amazing tempo control for different signatures as well. Good times.

I like to do both. Practice counting with a metronome, then I test myself by improvising over my favorite songs to get more mileage out of my practice without doing nothing but exercises

I 6 years into my guitar playing just recently decided I'm gonna learn how to play with a metronome, I still can't, but I'll never tell someone it's useless cause I'm convinced your a god if you can, or you got that good tism for it.

Both are good. I noticed that playing to the rhythm of the drums & bass in actual songs was surprisingly tough after getting used to the uniform click of the metronome, so I added time to play over songs/backing tracks in addition to practicing with a metronome.

Metronome is so stupidly helpful for someone who isn't natural in rhythm.
I literally had to study what rhythm is for a month😂

The metronome helps me slow down bits of songs and odd chord changes.
