As a recovering addict, my family has all been super supportive. When I hosted a holiday party this year I provided hot cocoa, coffee, tea, cider, and egg nog. No one brought alcohol and everyone had a fantastic time. I think it's all in how you approach the subject of what to bring and what tone you set.

Hearing your mom compliment us makes me personally really happy. My mom just said that she didn't want to see me...she's in the hospital with cancer and doesn't even want to see me. And I've been crying all day. So thank you momma kris❤❤❤

I'm glad to see people standing up for OP in the first one. It's great to see them sticking to their boundaries - especially one with such personal trauma related. It's one night in their own home that they are hosting which is already stressful, to see that your family would be petty enough to choose alcohol and make a rival event speaks volumes. There is always New Years and Boxing Day when they can get smashed, they can go dry for one night to be together as a family.

I love how difficult it was for your mom to give a genuine compliment, but I think it was difficult it because I feel like she wanted it to be deeply true so she had to search for something that could genuinely apply to a large group of people. She didn't want anyone left out.

Kris' mom's personality reminds me of my grandmother, she too took offense on blasphemy, but could swear enough to shame a drunken sailor if the situation called for it!
Kris just looks so happy now, it's such a delight to see her in such a good mood and I wish her all the best!
Kris' mom looks like the best mix of Jennifer Aniston's character Rachel Green and Jennifer Coolidge's character Jeanine Stiffler, Kris did a great job styling her!

Where I live, for around 35$ at McDonals I usually order one menu (so burger, fries and coke) a little cheeseburger for later, 5 chicken nuggets (for my dogs to share) and apple slices (for my rabbit). If I’d be sad and lonely and wanted double in my belly and not order nuggets and apple slices, for 35$ I’d get two menus. So two burgers, two fries and two cokes. For someone grieving a 3 year relationship, that’s not too much food.

As a sober person who has a serious family history of alcoholism who refuses to allow alcohol in my home, the first story really resonates with me. It's her home, and she is free to not allow that in her home. I always am very open about my rule, but I always provide fun mocktail alternatives, and I'm okay with my friends pregaming. It's a bit much for me to be around a ton of drunk people, but I understand that being sober isn't super common. I think the biggest thing with op is her wording makes her the asshole, but I don't see any issue with asking people not to bring something that you have trama associated with in your home.

I think the no alcohol one was completely valid. It’s her house, her party, and it is childish to not be able to have a good time without alcohol. It’s one night, be with your family and for goodness sakes be present if life is that hard without alcohol I’d rethink your life choices
