not everyone knows everything. I'd rather have someone admit they've been doing something wrong and rectify it, which has happened several times on this channel. i respect someone who realizes they put out some information that could be improved on and owns it.

1:50 there are some issues with this. The way i see it, this is is only applicable to feed forward compressors sicne they have a static decay time. Feedback compressors have a continuous decay which nonlinesrly chnages its time depending on the output level. This means you can have a 3 second decay and get a 600ms response if the sidechain element goes below the threshold before it finishes compressing. I can only reccomend doing this if you know what type of compressor you are using.

There is no industry standard regarding attack and release times. For some compressors using the exact time in millisecs will work, for others not so much.

Thank you guys!

In the past, you did suggest saturating the fundamentals so the generated harmonic is direct overtone of in-key elements resulting in a more musical saturation. You did this for drum bus, bass bus, instrumental bus, vocal bus, and master bus in several different videos. Now in this video you said for low end instruments like kick and bass, saturating the fundamentals would add harmonics in the low mids resulting in muddiness. So you excluded the fundamentals in your saturation in this video. So now I guess my takeaway is:
For kick and bass, don’t saturate the fundamentals.
For other instruments, saturate the fundamentals.

Wonderful, thanks! A nice update on your old low end vids. Would like to know what you think about the Musik Hack Fuel plug in and if it is better than Saturn for example.

Noooo, don’t tell them about the reverb secret 😭. When I realized professional engineers and mainstream mixes have reverb on the kick & bass, it was a *GAME CHANGER!*

I honestly am convinced engineers on YouTube specifically tell people not to do it because either:
1. They can’t do it themselves
2. Realize how powerful it is and intentionally lead us astray 😂.
(I also recognize that most beginners won’t really understand or properly situate it so they advise them against it; assuming they’ll later realize it)

But (as reverb does) this *heavily* allowed me to target the focus of the kick or bass (powerful yet far & quiet vs upfront but subtle & easy. Narrow and focused vs sort of hazy and wide).

This extremely useful if you’re a producer in different genres or mix different genres and styles often.

compressor attack and release times bpm sync is bullshit
the attack and release depends also on the threshold and the transient from the sound, just use your ears

cutting the sides is one on the worst advices ever gave. Most stereo signals go down to 100hz and there even award winning recordings with stereo subbasses.
