THERMOSTAT IS OFF BUT HEAT IS STILL ON \\ HEAT ON THERMOSTAT OFF

If your thermostat is off but heat is still on, you are probably experiencing some kind of "short" or connection issue. Most often with this problem is that a wire is touching something it should not be touching. Another possibility is that the gas valve is stuck open. This is rare, but it can happen.

If your thermostat is off but the heat is still on, it is probably best to have a technician come and check it out. You could at least try to put in new batteries to your thermostat to see if that was causing a connection issue, but this could be a strange problem that an experienced professional would be able to solve.

Battery powered thermostats, as far as I can tell, seem to use non-latching relays. That means they use the power from the batteries to hold the relay in the powered position when the heat is supposed to be on. So if the batteries fail, there is no power to keep the relay engaged, and the heat will turn off. Unless there’s something wrong with it.

My situation is a LP based Combi unit hooked via old wiring to Nest Thermostats. Not hot air blowing type, but radiators near the floor!

2 out of 3 zones are running heat even though the heat is off, or even when the thermostats are pulled off the wall.

Old wiring is when we used to have oil based burner with traditional thermostats. Never had problem then 🤦‍♂️

what about t restarting the unit, or shutting off in the attic to reboot? mine is the blower on (not heating) but unit is off?

Ok so what about a fairly decent house where every rooms heater is off except 2 rooms? There appears to only be 1 thermostat we have hot water baseboard heaters. My room and the bathroom has heat. The rest of the house is off. 8 other rooms.

Some you can’t turn off. If it is analog you turn it up to the top and back down until you hear a click. That will set it to an automatic level. I had to go to my electric panel to turn it off

Manual oil heater. Honeweyll 1415 thermostat. Got temp set to 60 degree temp reading at 75. Oil burner kicks in every 25 minutes, runs for about 45 seconds. I'm trying to keep it from happening because oil very expensive rite now. Get new thermostat?

So, further troubleshooting found that that Stat was bad. The setpoint portion of the Stat was intermit at fault, so the randomness of it all was because if the setpoint portion was intermit not functioning at the time the room hit setpoint, the boiler was not being told to shut off and the temp would just keep increasing until either the Setpoint portion intermit fault was gone, or I manually intervened and shut if off. So, there ya have it! I should have been an AC Tech...hehehe.

Omg I have this problem. The heat wasn't running all summer but now it just started cranking heat full blast all on it's own. My thermostat is turned off. I've tried turning it to auto and cool setting it down to 65. It's useless. Something is busted.

Could it be that heat from outside is getting in? I have a "California" wall heater and even when I turn the pilot off, it still seems to be noticeably warm when I walk past the heater. Also, I do not have a heat thermostat -- I have to turn the heat on/off by opening the bottom :/

could the constant heating be a bad Taco power head?

If two wires touching that shouldn't be is the main cause, how do you tell which wires to change?

I have a boiler/Radiator type of system and it doing this randomly. I'll come home from work, temp of room matches setpoint, but then I'll bump up the temp cause I'm cold, the system will runaway past setpoint and I have to shut it off and turn it back on and it will shutdown. Batteries are fine. I did observe that when I flicked the thermostat cover with my finger, the setpoint part of the display went out. I don't think it should do that...hehehe. Sounds like a flakey Stat to me. It's an older Honeywell Digital display battery operated Stat with "NO" Control wire, just 2 wire from the boiler. Anyone else have any ideas, happy to hear from a professional or two. Thanks!
