Sergei's was selfish. He left his wife and child at home and went off with zero communication for 30+ days. He died because he didnt bring proper climbing gear with him, like crampons. Thus he couldnt venture back up the slippery, vertical rocks to exit the cave. I only feel bad for his wife and child.

As if going to Veryovkina Cave was not enough, they did it when it rained... It's like an inverted mountain, it's pretty much all vertical descent and it is located in one of the rainiest places in the world. It's such a bad idea I can't put to words.

Sergei didn't fall. He forgot or lost his climbing stirrups and couldn't make the climb back up the vertical shaft. He died trying to climb up for days.

I'm sorry, I find it ironic that the name of the cave is one letter off from spelling "Very ok in a cave", instead, it's "Veryovkina" Cave. Morbidly ironic.
