Easy Cathedral Windows - This one REALLY is EASY!

Показать описание
Last week's video combined the easy cathedral windows block with a smaller, secondary cathedral window for an intricate and involved project. This week, we are cruising down easy street! Using that same easy cathedral windows technique and added some snowballed corners, we take out the need to plan everything in advance and simply final construction.

This is a great place to start if you loved last week's Faux Cathedral Windows but wanted to start with something a bit simpler.

Beautiful! I don't often leave comments, but it occurred to me that if you want the snowballed parts to be the same shape and size as the center faux cathedral window part, you can:
1. Select 4 larger squares of focus fabric for corner blocks (2¼" or 2½" square - not sure about exact measurement - I haven't made one yet, but can see it in my head)
2. Fold corner block in half on the diagonal and match raw edges with one corner of the background fabric so that the folded hypotenuse lines up adjacent to one of the CW curves with both ends touching both points of that curve
3. Use washable glue stick or baste at less than ¼" to anchor the raw edges together and to the background fabric (no need to press)
4. Repeat with remaining three corners of the block so that the whole block looks like a CW inside four HSTs with a little bit of the background fabric showing in-between
5. Sew down the bias edges of all the new outside/corner focus fabric HSTs just like you did with the center CW so that the center now appears to be surrounded by four other CWs
6. Remove basting stitches or carefully unstick the corner fabrics and cut away excess fabric from the back if you don't want that much bulk on the corners of all your blocks
When you sew all completed blocks together, it would look like every other CW is a solid fabric and every other CW is made of 4 different fabrics, but they would all be the same shape and size. It might look really cool if you use contrasting hues or values between those two different CW elements (eg: all the original/center CWs are blue and all 4-corner CWs are green, or all the centers are a medium value and all the 4-corners are dark value, etc.)
OK, sorry for the loquaciousness. I really appreciate your videos and always look forward to the next! 😊

Stunning! I watched both of your CW tutorials and loved them both. But I REALLY loved the scrappy cornerstones in this one! Thank you, too, for sharing and showing how you quilted it! So lovely!

Michelle another beautiful quilt . I live the ocean sea glass colours.
I really appreciate the close up camerawork and your calm explanation of the steps . Seeing that the coloured fabric is shorter than the background, the side you sew then clip makes perfect sense. Thank you.

Hi Michelle! Your quilt is spectacular. I love your color choices (the cool colors are my favorites always), and this pattern is very clever. I've never had much of a desire to make a cathedral windows quilt, but this one I will try for sure. Also - I love the way you quilted it - I was just wondering how you were going to do it, and then you explained it. A winner!

Another one I absolutely love. Great tutorial. Even though it’s an “easy” one. It is still involved with details, so this is on my to do list. Great color choices.
