OG base M1 Mini owner here: While I have no issues performance-wise with my now 4 year old M1 Mini, I ordered the base M4 within an hour of the announcement. Fortunately, Apple offers US buyers a 10% Military Veterans discount. I could defray that cost even further by selling my mint condition M1 for 200-250 USD (easily) on the re-sale market. However, I'll "convert" it into a feature-packed Video/Audio streamer on the family room TV. Accompanying it will be my ol' iPad Air 3 serving as a remote and keyboard/trackpad combo using Universal Control. It's remarkable how easy it is to re-purpose these "older" Apple devices, extending their useful lives and a real testimony to the value of Apple products in general.

I'll be upgrading both of my M2 mac minis to these new M4 variants. By trading them in and spending around 400 extra I go from 8GB to 16GB and from 16GB to 24GB of memory. And go 2 generations newer in chips. Sounds like a steal to me tbh.

I bought a £200 2 Tb SATA SSD for my old PC two years ago. I bought a faster £200 4Tb PCIe SSD this year for my new PC. This shows that something very close to Moore's law still applies to the pricing of flash memory chips. Apple have been able to double RAM in base level Macs with no cut in profits due to Moore's law. Now Apple should also double the flash memory in base level Macs because this would also cost them nothing

If you go way back to 2015, Intel released an i7 NUC that had 2 USB ports and a headphone/speaker plug on the front, 2 more USB ports, Displayport, mini HDMI and ethernet port on the back. The power button was on the top front left corner and the unit was the same height but a tiny bit smaller in length and width. Just a coincidence. I bought one of the M4 Mac Minis on the day it was released and am very happy with it.

Always been weird to me the Pro laptop doesn't come with the Pro chip as standard. You'd think the base M4 would go in the air, and the M4 Pro would go in the Pro.

I’m glad @Constant Geekery is still outputting 2160p, everyone else seems to have reverted back to 1080p… am I missing something? Is YouTube now downgrading or are content creators filming in 2160p and squeezing down to 1080p? It seems the time saving would be negligible between rendering then downscaling to save time on an upload ?
Maybe some techie could explain this
This is the ONLY channel I’ve checked that has output at 4k so far since I’ve noticed 🤫

Like to see presentation on iMac M4 external backup drives for internal SSD, external Photos Library and Time Machine.

"Do you feel your wallet, starting to sweat?"
Yes, mine, because I still have my M1 MacBook Pros (2 of them). And the temptation to upgrade is becoming too much...

Excellent start to video, made me laugh. Good slapstick.

Great video.

I got a ser8 the other day and I think a mac mini would stack *very* cutely on top of it and have the best of both worlds a cheap 96GB/4TB server on the ser8 to run vms and huge language models slow in the background and a cheap 16GB/256GB mac to run apple things on top :D

They'll just double the memory usage of everything. That's using intelligence.

That entry level Mac Mini is an interesting move. IMO Apple has needed an entry level, affordable system to get more users into the ecosystem - and it seems actually very good value for money. It's getting close to video game console money, which I think could subtly give an increased market share to Mac OS if they keep pushing this

I am still finding no issues with my M1 Max, it still does not lag for anything i do as a software engineer. But that mini sure does look attractive, I will be getting the base model for replacing all my raspberry pi servers that I use to host multiple apps from home. But I do see a future where eventually I will transition to a mini pro at home on the desk and a cheap air for travel. That's of course when my M1 Max gives up, it shows no signs of that unfortunately, lol.

That intro is the best take on youtube on the M4 announcements. I'm battling a cold and it had me coughing my lungs out while trying to laugh. 😂

The combination of the massive performance jump with M4 and the price drop for RAM capacity makes this generation as interesting as the M1 generation. I'm definitely going to replace my 2019 5K iMac with an M4 mini or MBP (probably the latter). But surprisingly I'm even reconsidering my M1 air and mini, which is impressive on apple's part because those are still absolute killer machines.

I'm holding out for the M4 Max Mac Studio to replace my M1 Max Mac Studio. I just hope it it's not skipped this iteration.

I messaged Apply, why can they not Give pro on 24" M4 iMac.
It has a huge bezel they can run a vapor chamber across and add cpl cooling vents at each end at the back. One intake and the other exhaust.

Really enjoy your reviews. I’m so pleased what Apple have done with the base model M4 MacBook Pro. It now is a “MacBook Pro” and I breezed through the ordering process knowing I didn’t need to configure anything.
