Should YOU get Virgin Media Broadband? What is Virgin Media service like? Find out now in this Virgin Media Review!

Yes I know this is a first world problem, but hey, I'm a tech freak and the internet not working the way it should affects my life haha!

Do also check out Pro-Coustix, they have been absolutely amazing providing me with acoustic foam for my new studio. They have some of the best acoustic foam I have seen (and I have looked, a lot, seriously).
I have not yet completed treating the whole studio with the foam, but we are close to being finished.

I’ve had Virgin for 4 years and never had an issue to be fair. Only issue is trying to get a good price out of them after the 18 month discount ends.

I left virgin media in 2015 because of horrendous price rises and customer services ive been lucky enough to have new fiber lines laid by Grain broadband now I get 900mbs up and download for £30 pm virgin media is finished in our town since city fibre and grain broadband.

Not as of April 2024. Although they have invested a ton into newer coaxial kit on the backend, it’s still very poor. Went for the 1Gig package, cancelled 6 months in and paid off cancellation fee because I was getting weekly 1-3 second pauses, monthly outages for 5 minutes and 1 major outage where engineer had to come and put a signal filter on box end to reduce the signal. Virgin Media make you run hoops on rebooting router (pain if your in modem mode) and they don’t treat any outage as an outage till it’s been two days. Avoid for now. Wait till they replace kit with Fibre (some areas).

Which provider would you recommend in SW London? I’m currently with TalkTalk but it’s very very poor

I had unreliable virgin broadband for years, no matter how many new routers they sent or how many “tweaks” or adjustments they made which they insured would fix the problem it didn’t. This went on for around 5 years, they finally arranged to send an engineer 12 months ago, the engineer was here 3 minutes before he found there was a problem with the Virgin socket on the wall (where the fibre cable comes from) he fixed it in a matter of minutes & my 1 GIG Virgin broadband has been flawless since.

Regardless, the fact it taken them so long to finally admit an engineer was needed I find outrageous!

EDIT!! Forgot to mention the fault, internet would randomly drop out multiple times per day every day!

Hey mate does even Zen or hyperoptic is available in you area.. i reside in 🇲🇹🇪🇺 and i got Fibre to the home but the issues are the upload .here..so 500 down and 50 up real world 580 by 58 and gig by 60 up real speeds 970 by 75 up ...and the lack in 🇲🇹🇪🇺is that the speeds are not sympathetical 500 down up or 1 gb down up.... But as a it tech Over 1gb is a bit overkill to be honest.. and we have Melita advertising as fiber but using coaxial so that a scam like vergin same.

No they have terrible customer service and double your bill once out of contract, also the reliability too correct .. just swapped to vodafone and great

I started an 18 month Virgin Media broadband contract 3 months ago. Today I recevied a letter letting me know that my monthly price will go up by 8.8% from next month in line with their terms and conditions. Appalling tactics. They reel in customers with an apparent low monthly price only to increase it 3 months after the contract started.

Just come out of contract with VM and am on the 1gig package with TV and phone (max package). The price went from £64 per month to about £160 per month. Rang to get better deal. Three ago using hours later the best they would offer was £87 per month. We never get 1gig best is usually 440mb during the day but through my employers VPN it can be 50 to 150mb and reliability drops off from about 3.30pm when schools let out. So looking for an alternative, possibly City Fibre as they are coming to our area or maybe EE as all our family mobile contracts are with them, or even considering Starlink. We tried dropping some of the TV Channels with VM as we hardly watch movies or the kids channels etc but they said we’d get better discounts with the bigger package! So, anyone got any reservations with City Fibre, EE, or Starlink?

Just left Virgin, gone to Three 5g broadband. 800 down 150 up at a fraction of the price.
£20 pound a month. No antenna, dish or cable connection needed. Perfect for the average user.

Can't get CF in my area but I can get FTTH. I'm currently on Virgin Gig 1 and they are going on the 11th as I'm getting Toob FTTH fitted on Monday.

I currently have M350 plan, and the internet always seems to be dropping regularly. This is making me want to upgrade the package to Gig1 but I'm not sure if this will get better? have you noticed any difference in reliability when you've switched, or did it behave the same way?

I've had Virgin Broadband for around 4/5 years now, not 1 issue at all. In fact when my discounted offer expired I told them straight I will go to someone else, but I want to stay with you and so they offered a slightly reduced rate which I was happy to pay because from my perspective broadband wise they are the best in the UK and the speed I needed no one else could provide it. I'm now paying £52 per month for 1Gbps and as it's mainly for business reasons it's pretty cheap compared to anyone else.

I'm about to go into the same predicament. I have VDSL Zen with only 25mbit down/6mbit up and been that way for the last 9 years. VM AND Openreach are building on my street this week so I expect to have VM offer services in the next month or two. Zen has been awesome, almost 0 downtime the last 9 years. Do I give that up for VM 1Gig and suffer higher downtimes. I have a pfsense router so failover to the Zen line would be easy enough to setup. This of course means keeping two lines, just in case VM turns out to be lame. Me and my wife work from home with a very high dependency on internet quality.... We can't afford any downtime. Dilemma.

Ive been a customer of Virgin Media for over 8 years, and then I started working for Virgin Media O2 2.5 years ago and there network is stupid reliable for me, in 8 years ive had one down time because national grid sliced though the cables supplying the main cabinet... I will admit, if you are on an old network, In a less than able coax area, it can be an issue, just get your cable repulled

BT and Virgin are the top two ISPs that our users use to connect to our workplace VPN. It's always the Virgin customers that have the majority of the issues.
The two current ISPs I currently avoid are Virgin Media and Vodafone.
Vodafone because if your a work from home person, I've seen them throttling workplace VPNs. Soon as you change to a non VPN protocol the speeds are fine. I do wonder if they have some form of P2P detection and throttle and VPNs are getting classed in that.
Virgin Media, is just not reliable enough. Maybe it'll get better once their new XGS PON hits more customers, but if their backbone doesn't improve then I'm guessing most issues will remain other than the ones caused by over subscription on DOCSIS.
