Newborn Care Skin-To-Skin TIPS

Показать описание
.
😷Greetings my fellow pediatric nurses, L&D nurses & for all of my 1st time parents.
.
.
At birth your baby may be placed directly on your chest. So at this time Your L&D nurse will dry your baby immediately.
.
.
Then theyll check your baby over and cover you both with the warm blanket. The connection of your bare skin baby lying directly on your skin is called “skin to skin contact.”
.
Now this Immediate undisturbed skin to skin contact allows your baby to go through instinctive stages. These include looking at you, resting and finally self attachment to the breast. This additional Intial snuggling also has very important health benefits.
.
.
😷Now here are 7 benefits of skin to skin contact:
1. It soothes and calms you and your baby.
2. Your baby cries less.
3. Helps your baby regulate their temperature and heart rate.
4. Helps your baby regulate their breathing and blood sugar.
5. Enhances bonding 100%.
6.Helps your uterus shrink back to regular size.
7. Release of oxytocin which helps produce colostrum.
—————-
—————-
😷Now let’s talk about safe positioning for safe skin to skin contact.
1. You should be semi reclined or upright and alert.
2. Your baby is in the middle and high up on your chest.
3. Your baby shoulder and chest are facing you.
4. Your baby‘s head is turned to one side with mouth and nose visible.
5. Your babies chin is in a neutral position not slouched also called the sniffing position.
6. Your babies neck is straight not bent.
7. Your babies arms and legs are flex in tight to the side of their body.
8. Lastly your baby‘s back is covered with warm blankets.

😷Since we’re talking about skin is skin contact, let’s continue this video to discuss the best immediate start for breast-feeding is at this moment.
.
.
😷Always remember baby should always maintain good skin color. They should respond to stimulation and babies are usually calm & relaxed during skin to skin contact. You may get sleepy as well but it’s best to have an alert adult at the bedside to help out.
.
.
😷Hope this video held for all my pediatric nurses and also for my newborn parents and let’s not forget all the registered nurses out there still learning.
