Why is skin to skin important for your new born baby?

Показать описание
☘️For nine months your baby is safe and secure inside your womb..so warm and cozy...
Now imagine your baby being born and suddenly -
🥶It is cold in the OT
💡There are bright lights
🫁Baby is learning to breathe
🤱Baby has to learn to latch and feed
😟Different textures touching baby's skin
👨⚕️👨⚕️So many people handling your baby
...so much for the first time...all at once!
🌸Our babies go through a lot when transitioning from womb to earth side. You can make it a gentler transition for your baby by keeping them skin to skin on your bare chest and covering both in a warm blanket at least until they feed for the first time. And also as much as possible for the first few weeks.
Skin-to-skin contact after the birth helps babies and their mothers :
🌸calms and relaxes both mother and baby
🌸regulates the baby’s heart rate and breathing, helping them to better adapt to life outside the womb
🌸stimulates digestion and an interest in feeding
🌸regulates temperature
🌸enables colonisation of the baby’s skin with the mother’s friendly bacteria, thus providing protection against infection
🌸stimulates the release of hormones to support breastfeeding and mothering.
🌸 Skin-to-skin contact also provides immense benefits for babies in the neonatal unit helping them grow better.
