India becomes most populous nation, overtakes China, says UN report

Surpassing China, India is now the most populous country in the world. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) released data in the 'State of World Population Report, 2023'. As per demographic data, India's population surpassed 1.428 billion while China stood at 1.425 billion. There is a difference of 2.9 million people between India and China. Half of the population is under the age of 30 in India. The country is set to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy in the coming years. The government of India will need to generate employment for millions of people due to the burgeoning population. India’s population is expected to touch 1.668 billion by 2050. While China’s population is expected to contract to about 1.317 billion.

High time India should make a policy for population control, if this continues then Economic growth will slow down.Our education sector is not equivalent to the size of the population, unemployement is already high, it will increase, more job opportunities, schools, etc., more and more infrastructure is required if we actually want such a big population and also a good economic growth

The high population increases and population growth rates in India appear also due to large numbers of people from neighboring countries arriving regularly in India, legally or illegally, for a better life and settling and reproducing there, while keeping low the population numbers and population growth rates in the neighboring countries.
