Nursing Skill Check: IV Insertion

Nursing skills lab procedure for IV insertion.

Prep all equipment before, then put tourniquet on and look for best vein to preform vein puncture and clean the site of iv insertion, then preform vein puncture.

For those saying that the patient shouldn't have bled so much: These dummy arms that they use for practice are very "bloody" and don't occlude perfectly, even if you're pressing down very hard. When you occlude the vein on a real person, the blood won't drip out like that.
They should have shown that she primed the extension tubing, though. I assume that she did because I know the steps involved, but they definitely should have shown it.

Wait!!! You are suppose to release the tourniquet, hold the insertion site, then press the needle safety release. She didn't release the tourniquet after advancing that's why so much play blood was dripping like that.

You primed the syringe but you didn't prime the tubing that connected before flushing..

Well whoever thought this was a great idea. Anyways she didn't occlude hard enough....a lot of instability as well. It's okay shes learning lolll
