My daughter gave us this same model for Christmas. As with every other Mr Coffee we’ve owned we ran a couple of cycles with only clean water. Well turned out that the coffee tasted like plastic. We thought it was our taste buds since we recently had Covid. My daughter came to visit and poured herself a cup and her first words out of her mouth was WTF! this tastes like plastic! I don’t know if it’s defective, or operates too hot? We’ve never had this problem before and we’ve owned several Mr Coffees throughout the years. This made us think, have we’ve been drinking plastic contaminated coffee all these years, maybe to a lesser degree where you can’t really tell? So we decided to buy a metal percolator like my Mother used to have and we loved it. We felt nostalgic lol. You have to be careful though the coffee is way hotter. But the coffee tastes real good and we have peace of mind that we’re not drinking plastic. Only one downside I just had a cup and I can’t stop typing 😁

I used only 1 scoop for 10z of water, and I thought it was too strong...but yucky. I'll try 2 scoops. Maybe that will bring out a roastier cup. Thanks!

I tossed my Mr. Coffee in the trash yesterday because that's where garbage belongs. It was less than 6 months old too! The machine w0rked properly until I started to use it as the user's manual advised. Setting the number of cups, the time, strength, etc., then it turned to trash literally overnight. I would have to turn it off and then back on to get it to continue making the same pot sometimes 4 or 5 times. Yesterday, while making its last pot, I heard a strange glass ping sound, you know the one!, and looked at the machine and coffee began seeping slowly onto the counter. The carafe cracked, I guess from the heat? Well, I'm off to buy a coffee maker, and you can bet it won't be a MR. Coffee!!! BTW, the heating element was always too hot! You had to use the coffee quickly or it would evaporate and concentrate down to taste like tar smells. I wasted a ton of coffee with it too because of that.
