How to multiply 2-digit numbers fast with a trick

Today I will show my favorite multiplication trick to multiply two digit numbers so fast in only three steps.

There are the 3 steps:
- First, multiply the digits in the ones place column.
- Second, cross multiply the numbers in the middle (criss cross). Don´t forget to add the products together.
- Third, multiply the digits in the tens place column.

Be patient, with some practice, you will be able to multiply two digit numbers mentally, trust me.

I do this by adding the 2 from 12 to the 14 which equals 16 and add a 0 which is 160 and then multiply the last 2 digits 4×2=8 add the 8 to 160 and you get 168. Based number multiplication when both numbers are in the tens. So easy to do it in your head. Example 17×13 add the 3 to 17 eguals 20 add a 0 and get 200 multiply 3×7=21 add 21 to 200=221

How about having 2 digits as product of the first 2 number you need to multiply

I am guessing that this math trick only works for multiplication questions where the last digit of the 2 numbers don't sum up to have a number above 9, cuz then if the answer is 10 or above, then the numebr has to be carried out to the first digits of both nunbers

This could be known as the FOIL method.
F: First
O: Outer
I: Inner
L: Last

Let's try 78 x 12:
Our first digit(s) is/are going to be the first digit of both numbers multiplied. 7 x 1 = 7 so our first digit of our answer is going to be 7.
Our second digit is going to be the outer numbers multiplied plus the inner numbers multiplied. 7 x 2 + 8 x 1 = 22.
22 carries over, so our first digit becomes 9 and our second digit is 2.
Our final digit is going to be the product of the last two digits from both numbers. 8 x 2 = 16.
16 carries over, so our second digit is 3 and our last digit is 6.

If you get a case where the first two numbers multiply to over 10, act as if it is a single digit, just make sure your answer stays like that.
e.g 34 x 56 = 1904
