Would the Episode IX Colin Trevorrow script have been better than The Rise of Skywalker?

Well, no matter what, they lost the Star Wars. 😀

And by better I mean "less of a giant mess."

Here's the original article with links to the Duel of Fates pdf script and concept art tweets.

Oh, and Rey can choose to bring herself back to life. And Finn seems to be force sensitive (and bloody everyone else.) Even broom boy and co make an appearance! Hurray! *I don't care.*

This sounds good, as a first draft. I REALLY doubt Trevorrow had time to make more than that. I suspect it'd go through a couple versions after what we got to make it more fine tuned.

Trevorrow script is the best arrangement of deck chairs I’ve ever seen on the Titanic.

People are saying this is so much better than TROS (and I did not like TROS) only because they have TROS to compare it too. If this script had leaked prior to Episode IX coming out, then people would have been hating on this as much as they did for all the Episode IX leaks. I am pretty sure that way back when Doomcock ran a story about the Force Vampirism leak and everyone tore it to shreds. Well, this script gives even more of that type of power, so it would have been bad as well.

I'll admit it would have tied closer to TLJ, and maybe even TFA, than TROS did, but after TLJ, there was no realistic hope of saving this trilogy. And besides, I think people also forget that this script wouldn't have even lasted another two weeks because of Carrie Fisher's passing. The script was dated 12/16/2016, less than two weeks before Carrie's death, so it would have had to have changed regardless (for good or ill, who knows). I am of the belief that Trevorrow left for 'creative differences' because he wanted to have TLJ's ending changed so that Carrie was the one who gave her life, or died from her injuries, and that Luke survived but Disney, Kennedy and Rian Johnson refused to do so, even though they had a full year to rework things, and no one would have taken an issue with them doing reshoots after Carrie's passing.

...The question should be if it was the ending we actually wanted...

I don't think anything they could have written that didn't completely alter Luke Skywalker's attitude in The Last Dumpster Fire into a deception on an order of "Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father...from a certain point of view" level could have saved Episode IX.

That version of the script gave fans what they were clearly clamoring for: Seeing Luke's force ghost catch Kylo Ren's lightsaber with his bare translucent hand. (/s) If you search around, that's actually also one of the pieces of artwork that was leaked.

Hishe How it should have ended was better written than all sequel movies

I don't think it would have been good because his previous films weren't exactly good on top of that Disney is creatively bankrupt.

Which would be harder:
Writing a third sequel that retcons TLJ and has a good ending, or:
Writing a third Mass Effect game that retcons ME 2 and has...
...an ending (honestly, any other ending would be better than the actual ending of ME 3)?

if you say that the story in The Last Jedi was bad, its like you are saying that the story in Dragon Age Inquisition is bad.

oh wait.

I read that script and ROS was a complete mess, but the original ep 9 script was just bad too. I guess it was better?

Trevorrow is a hack, and can’t write to save his life not to mention KK, the stakeholders and Iger would’ve meddled with his script anyway just like they did with JJ who is a different kind of hack imo. This is like people praising fallen order in comparison to the EAbattlefronts. Just because it’s a smaller pile of crap than the other one doesn’t mean it’s the second coming. The sequel trilogy was horrible since the TFA opening crawl. It was a nonsensical copy pasted foundation that was never going to work due to how badly laid out and unplanned it was.

The ending was where the script really floundered, but they were trying to create a climax without a proper villain. Everything leading up to it was decent, and that's a hard enough hurdle for Star Wars under Kennedy to clear.
