If you're wondering: where is Hillbilly Elegy? Is Hillbilly Elegy a true story? Who are the people in Hillbilly Elegy? This is a good video for you.

Hillbilly Elegy on Netflix is a powerful and inspiring true story, based on J.D. Vance’s memoir of growing up in his Appalachian hometown, with his drug-addicted mother (played by 6-time Oscar nominee, Amy Adams) and eccentric grandmother (7-time Oscar nominee, Glenn Close).

Vance’s book made headlines across the globe in 2016, when reporters claimed it captured the American white working classes’ sentiments around the Trump vs. Clinton election. The hotly anticipated film adaptation is directed by Ron Howard and follows the family’s struggles with addiction, poverty and violence. “Family is the only thing that means a goddamn”. Hillbilly Elegy, now streaming on Netflix.

I don't care what those critics say, this was one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. It was incredibly well-acted and well written. I loved it!

This movie hit me deep at home. So much similarities to my life. Someone has to put a stop to the generations of family bad habits and negativity.

A touching true story of an Appalachian family who struggled from poverty, trials, misfortunes and domestic drama. In a life of economic hardships, they're still bonded with love. Superb performance from award-winning Glenn Close. Two thumbs up also to Amy Adams and the rest of the actors. This made my Saturday night worth staying home. A memoir of a family and culture in crisis.

Can we finally give Glenn and Amy their Oscars? Glenn has been nominated seven times and Amy, six times.

I grew up in that part of the country. Ron Howard nailed it. Thank God for the Strong Grandmothers who pushed us to fulfill our dreams.
Glenn Close represented so many that wanted their grandchildren to live a better life than they gave their children. I would recommend this 100%.
Amy did a fabulous job representing the drug culture in this oppressed community.

As a Black American I understand this greatly either by living a bit of it but mostly by what I saw in the changing of my neighborhood during the height of the crack epidemic in Detroit. Watching factories shut down and leave those who were middle class in homes they owned and neighborhoods that they loved have to figure out how to make ends meet.

Understanding the duality of being home, proud of where you came from, and not wanting to become the outsider or sellout and leave everyone behind.

I'm reading the book now and I'll watch the film when I get home.

I started reading this to understand those who support Trump (not conservatives, but Trump supporters) and why he has become the voice of the voicesless in our poorer, rural areas.

I'm glad that I did. We all have far more in common than we want to admit. Hopefully one day the middle class will be strong again and this class divide ends.

I am that little boy in theory. Coming from a family of abuse and street drugs in nothern california. The only one to make it out of my small town-with a few scratches of course and just by a hair, but I made it out. I had a really big fight with my mom last night and im currently dealing with being told im the "golden child"-while my siblings and mother tear me down in anger and jealousy because I managed to not be like them. I am the odd man (woman) out. I am the one who got away. The one who did okay and doing it while being a single mother at 19 and raising a child whos now 16.

I am grieving the loss of my family, what could have been, how I wish things could be different and how I wish I didnt feal like an orphan. I have a lot of guilt. I grieve for them.
Im so glad this story was written. This film couldnt have shown up on my Netflix at a better time.

Those critics don't understand anything unless they can relate to growing up like this. I'm here to say, there is nothing more to "explore" as the critics put it other than a dysfunctional family. I lived it. Critics will never understand it otherwise and certainly have no right to pick it apart. The message is clear: dysfunctional families are hell for those of us who experienced them. Tell me, what more do you need to analyze about that to understand? Critics are looking for something that is not there to begin with. Unfortunately, many of us understand what that means.

Amy outdid herself on this one. She an amazing actress, one minute you’re hurting for her, next you just want her gone. It’s an amazing must watch movie.

Truly a very realistic representation of life when your poor. Although neither of my parents suffered from
drug or alcohol abuse, we were certainly poor and they were not educated beyond grade 6 and 10. The movie certainly touched a lot of emotions of my own childhood. Loved the movie!
