I looked very seriously at Synology Drive but found that it required too much restructuring and required a structure that I did not like. I ended up using Syncthing and Synology's snapshot feature so I think I got pretty much the same thing. Plus, I edit locally and don't have to rely on a network connection; local or remote. ( If there's no network or internet connection, Syncthing will sync when it is available at a later time. ) So far, so good. But, a great education as always Frank and very much appreciate all of your efforts.

Very good approach for some (not for me, but I'm not a typical NAS user). You could have mentioned immutable snapshots as a further layer of protection against ransom attacks.

Now I remember why I'm not using Drive, you can't change the home directory to a volume of the NAS or access those volumes through Drive. A real bummer.

Since QuickConnect isnt secure... how to use lets say OpenVPN together with Synology Drive and get the Sync Cloud benefits of Synology Drive AND the security of OpenVPN... or is that not even possible?

I'd like to understand the "mystery" of Synology Drive versioning in ext3. Which files are versioned?. All files processed by Synology Drive app in the PC?. Or the whole Teams (homes) folders?. When I turn on versioning in MyDrive and Homes the amount of data versioning increases up to 8 times!!!...Even files that are never updated...So I don't get what does versioning do.

Extremely helpful, thanks! I own a small business. One thing I’m hoping to do is use Synology Drive to share files with a select group of customers. I’d prefer not to enable QuickConnect for security reasons. Is my only other option to port forward on my router along with restricting access to the specific IPs of my customers?

I'm going to explore this further. I use Debian 12 as my daily driver and I see that there is a Flarpak Synology Drive client which hopefully I can use to replace Dropbox.

It's too bad you can't install Synology Drive without enabling quickconnect. There will never be a time that I'd access the data I want to put under Drive externally.

The app itself is fine but I hated when it literally have to download it to your computer and it starting to tick me. Sure, I can just remove them but I wish they could have sth like "Offline mode: On/Off" (On by default).

I love Synology Drive, BUT not all my pdf´s or word documents will sync. And I don´t know why.

If someone know why. I would apprediate it.

Unfortunately Synology apps such as drive client do not support failover connectivity, i.e. you can set up only one connection option. I'd love to set it up to use e.g. TS, but if it fails for some reason, to fall back to QC. Sadly, it can't do that.

Your voice on this channel is always a bit difficult to understand. I am not hundred percent sure why. Maybe it should be a bit louder or some frequencies might be missing. In general you seem to record good audio because there is no noise or something like that. Many thanks for your great videos.
