Paracord Cable Sleeving Guide

First of all sorry for some audio in this video, I had to keep my voice down when I was recording. Moving on, this is my condensed version on how to sleeve your PSU cables. I try to give a step by step guide on how to do this while keeping the length down because it can be tedious.

I used paracord 550 from amazon that was very cheap, they also have a ton of color options that should match any build theme. The key to this being successful is being patient and paying attention to what you are doing. You are dealing with very small spaces and delicate equipment so you want your sleeving job to be as close to perfect as possible.

I know most cables can be done pretty easily but if you have the EVGA Supernova like I do, there are going to be capacitors on some of the cables and some split VGA cables that can give you problems. From my research, I believe that it is fine to remove the capacitors to get cleaner results. It seems as they are there for ripple suppression but can be removed without doing any harm to your components. If you buy the individually sleeved cables from EVGA, they do not come with the capacitors on the cables anyways.

Now if you have a second video card and have to use the split VGA cable, the process is still the same except you have to glue the cables to the end. It does seem a little ghetto but there is just no way to get two separate sleeves into the same space. If you are careful with this it looks just fine, and you can only see the details if you are literally right up next to the cable.

Thanks for the video, sir. I have been having trouble finding out if it was ok to remove those capacitors. That is how I found your vid. Thanks again.

Thanks man this is so helpful. I’ll be doing this on my first build than just buying those expensive extensions.

So I can just buy a standard 550 paracord and remove inner nylon strands?

How thick was this paracord and how thick were these cables? I have thicker cable to sleeve and trying to understand how much bugger the diameter of the paracord has to be to fit like 6, 5mm

I like to use a tiny chunk of heat shrink instead of trying to melt the Paracord strands to the wire.

Do you maybe still have the link of the paracord you bought?

hey, i want to use the same stuff to make guitar cables but they use quite thick cables. do you think 550 paracord (4mm) will go over a 6mm cable?

My problem I've been having is the wire with the paracord on it will not fit back into the connector. I push it in and the paracord slides off back off the cable.

Nice video, do you not need heatshrink with paracord since it naturally crimps?

I have the same cables i can remove the capacitors on the 24pin connector. How about relocating the capacitor to where you dont see it?

How much length of sleeving did you need for the whole project?

I'd prefer heat shrink on the ends. There is heat shrink out there in a multitude of colors, even clear, and glossy. Plus you can get it with hot glue on the inside, so leave the paracord a little too short on both sides and seal up the ends with hot glue shrink tube. Guaranteed to never fray, and looks professional.

Best to use the correct pin removing tool than using a staple.

HEADS UP FOLKS - EASE YOUR FEARS AND GET THE RIGHT TOOLS! For something you really can damage like the PINS on the power connectors, just spend the few $ and get the tool. *Example Here* Go to Amazon and paste this in the search -> Konsait PSU Modding Tool Kit

For $15 you can save yourself pain, frustration and money because you destroyed a pin and said "eh what's the worst that can happen." Famous last words. The right tool saves time and money.
Edit: Also it's easy for beginners to burn the wires/shrink wrap when using a lighter/butane torch, easiest way is with a Heat Gun (Harbor Freight $20 use it... unethical advise: return it after you're done IN RESELLABLE condition), or makeshift one from a hairdryer. Don't let the wrong tools and lack of experience cause disappointment in your results OR cause avoidable/preventable damage.

YES ANYONE IS CAPABLE to do this! Just don't rush into something you're excited to do. Trust me, you may regret diving in before checking the depth! Tinker away my friends, just be prepared for the "Good Idea Fairy" to ruin the day.

I came here to see what size paracord to use. Oh well. If you said it, sorry I couldn't here it. I had my soundbar maxed out and your voice trails off like piss in the wind. Drop your sack man and speak up.
