So it's another of the prisoner's dilemma with game theory

Three logicians walk into a bar. The bartender asks "Does everyone want beer". The first and second logicians each say "I don't know", and then the third answers "Yes".

Went to mediation recently. A different system than the one mentioned by Rafi, it's more of a negotiation.
As the one who filed, I was the one to make the first offer.
Then, when we (my lawyer and I) gave the offer, we expected a much lower counter offer, and I was actually considering accepting it regardless (the money wasn't what I cared about).
And then... they declined to give a counter offer.
This is despite my offer being lower than what it would cost them to take it to trial...
And they are still lying through their teeth, day in and day out. Frankly, I am tired of them, I think they're a disgrace...

For reference - the other party is a publicly funded university, and I am (still) a student there, soon to graduate. I do not want to go to the next part of the process (despite having hundreds of emails of proof, and that's without the discovery being taken into account yet), but they sure do...

Everything boils down to game theory then

How does mediation work out with non-monetary issues? For example, a mediator for a collective bargaining agreement between a union and management and its about a part of the contract stating how disciplinary action is to be handled

you don't ever know what the other side did? But you clearly gave a circumstance where you do know what the other side did.

That Vacheron 222 on the wrist is an extremely nice watch. Pretty extensive watch collection

What if both parties give a range? Say, one says $5-$15, , and the other says $10-$20?

"You don't ever know what the other side did" he says, after explaining that in one instance you do know what the other side did.

I used to be an insurance adjuster and went to hundreds of mediations and several arbitrations. It was fun.

Why suggest 7$ if you're going to say no to yourself?

But you do know what they did if you said yes and the deal was a no, ...right?

Mediation is trash, honestly. Always go to court if you think you can win.

"You don't ever know what the other side did"
You just said it yourself. If you say yes and they say no then you know that they said no

Ooo, I like this. Take all the bidding out. Take the trying to screw eachother over out. Just a cut and dry, we working together or going to court?
