Hollywood writers have gone on strike for the first time in 15 years, after negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and studios broke down. The streaming boom has transformed the industry, meaning there are more writing jobs - but cost-saving measures like ‘mini-rooms’ have actually left writers with shorter contracts and lower pay. The last strike lasted 100 days and was felt throughout Hollywood. Remember how fast “Heroes” went downhill? Other infamous casualties were “Quantum of Solace” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”. What do you make of the strike? Tell us in the comments!

Wouldn't it be more financially profitable to use AI to replace the CEO's???

Compensate the writers! Hoping it all works out for them. I’m with the writers!

Production crew and craftspeople have been out of work for months, because SAG and DGA negotiations were scheduled pending the WGA negotiations Ask any agent or production entity (including studios) and you find that 80 percent of projects have been postponed since January to avoid potential shutdowns, because it’s assumed the Guilds would support each other out of consideration. So far that consideration looks like it’s only going in one direction.

If you write scripts for a living, and you consistently make people have a better day with them, you deserve to be paid more.

They wasted people who has talents on writing and change them to the people who is incompetent.

"not unreasonable." notice that the hosts are being told to say the same thing

I think the only good part of the last strike was that it forced some late night show hosts to get really creative. Conan's stuff during that time was pure gold...at least to my young 20 something brain.

These are the beautiful creative minds that work tirelessly to entertain and inspire us all - they absolutely deserve their fair compensation. I totally support this strike, especially as a massive Supernatural fan!!! Writers save lives every day, long after their stories air for the first time.

I’m frustrated, because of this strike, me and my coworkers hours were cut and another prophouse laid off almost all of its workers. This is effecting more than just the writers.

Heroes was an amazing series and it was unfortunate the last strike killed that show and others.

"The writer's demands are not unreasonable" said Colbert because it was in the script that was written for him.

I'm a freelance writer, so I can understand how shit it is to not be compensated for your work. But it's not always so simple when it comes to television.

Streaming and normal television are completely different, and pay would be different too. If your contract is shorter, that means less work, and less work should mean less pay.

Hollywood writing these days has also been atrocious, writers should be paid according to the quality of their work, I mean, some TV shows could be better written by a 2nd grade student than they're currently written.

As a freelance screenwriter, I am in complete solidarity with the WGA East and West. It may seem easy, but it takes a toll and is soul crushing work. Get it, WGA.

More than half the shows shouldn't exist and along with them the writers and the actors. There is a lot of garbage out there and it finally caught up to them.
