I have been trying to figure out how I want to tell this story for weeks. I kept recutting this video, reliving the emotions. It has been hard.

But it's a story I want to share. I hope that it makes others who have been through or are currently going through similar experiences feel less alone. I hope that it inspires you personally, and fills you with hope that life, despite its challenges, after all, can be beautiful.

-Ned

P.S. A HUGE thank you to all of the nurses, doctors, and administrators at the NICU and all hospitals. We appreciate you so so much.

Ned, I was a NICU baby. I was born at 23 weeks and expected to die within hours. I spent 3 months in the NICU.
I recently celebrated my 18th birthday and am 100% healthy. You’ll be a great Dad.

I hate seeing Ned upset. He’s so sweet. I honestly cannot stand him crying.

He is going to be the best dad.

I've never seen a dad speaking of his baby with so much love. I wish your wonderful family the best of the world.

Hey, Ned. I'm a single mom of a son who was born premature with severe brain abnormalities. They told me he was passing away slowly so we did skin to skin. His stats started getting better slowly. We were put into the NICU for 9 days and then sent home with hospice. The best I've ever heard is that he would live to be two years old. Well his fifth birthday is in October and we're celebrating at Disney (he loves mickey and the avengers). Kids have a way of surprising you...continually. Here's the best advice I have. Practice positivity, get sleep, and always remember to enjoy Wesley (it's really easy to over parent instead of have fun).

pro tip: when hes more responsible like when hes 6-7 or older, tell him he beeps when he sleeps, and when he fake sleeps hes gonna be doing his beeping noises so u know they fake sleeping

My son spent his first 3 weeks in NICU. When we took him home, we were told he will always be developmentally behind, will probably have a seizure disorder, brain damage... He is now 24, married, 2 kids (my grandbabies are AMAZING), has a good job so his wife can stay home. Graduated high school as an honors student. NICU is a scary way to start parenthood, but it's definitely not the end and life is beautiful afterwards.

This is the most realist thing ever you can see how this affected him and as well as Ariel I’ve gain a even more respect for Ned bc this is the hardest thing for a parent too go through

This may sound depressing, but I wish I had a dad like Ned.
Edit : yeah turns out he was exactly like my dad. Lesson learned kids :/

My mom works at a NICU! She's actually a neonatologist, and she loves her job, and the babies and parents that she works with. It's kind of a very uniting experience because people from all walks of life go through the NICU, the rich, the poor, the new parents, and the parents with already many children. I love shadowing her and her colleagues, and I hope to follow in her footsteps.
