That glare from the sun is actually the feature from Xiaomi called "starburst effect" due to its variable aperture. You can check it out on their product info/specs/feature/details on their website.

I think 14U was clearly the best here in majority of situations. Most natural looking photos and details.
Vivo is really struggling hard with over-sharpening, tho a lot of people seem to think that over-sharpening is detail, it's not, the same way a darker photo doesn't mean lack of detail or exposure issues.
Plus almost 2x slower shutter speed on average compared to Xiaomi, really impressive job Xiaomi.

It seems the Vivo X100 Ultra's numerous firmware updates over the past few weeks have improved it a lot and there's plenty more updates to look forward to. It's still not perfect and isn't much of an upgrade over the X100 Pro (which is perfectly well optimized by now and costs a lot less). The blurry long distance zoom photos is a real problem and it's not massively better even in low light against the competition, but it's still noticebly better overall compared to how it was during launch and the main lens and ultrawide still performs well.

Thanks Sam, great in depth video covering these top competing camera phones. Hard to make a choice at the moment but have a Vivo x100 Ultra coming in the mail soon! Can't wait for all the macro photography goodness 😁

well, , the vivo shots are so much over sharpned thats not details my friend, , actually the Xiamoi was the most organic camera like photos in the comparison, , i also noticed the faster shutter time speed is double the others in almost all photos, ,that means no motion blur, no shutter lag., , i hated the over processed sun in iphone and vivo, , the more it shines on Xiaomi is more natural and appealing, , thats my opinion take it if you like or leave it, , i am galaxy owner here so no biased opinions.. kudos for Xiaomi for making a true camera phone... 🎉

Xiaomi 14 Ultra got the larger 1" LYT-900 sensor with variable aperture! So you get natural looking bokeh, without using the artificial "Portrait"mode.

I think you should clarify where your focus is beforehand.
The fact is that all smartphones take good pictures.

However, I see that VIVO uses its AI to blend the shadows and all looks to artificail sharp from front to back, and so they look like all the old smartphones from the last 5 years.

I see that Xiaomi retains shadows, especially in faces, and to me it looks like a good DSLR camera. I won't go into everything here.

You could perhaps take a SONY DSLR and do a proper comparison. ;) I would also compare automatic and manual.

There is also an important point that you always leave out and that is that the automatic mode is supposed to take the user's thinking away and it is supposed to represent a theoretical preference of the manufacturer (company policy).

So please, before you confuse people any further, please do a qualitative comparison. Thank you

While Vivo does overall win, it seems you have a pretty biased and made up preference and didn't award points to the others when they were better, but majored on their own issues. For ex, I can see the Xiaomi easily wins the night videos, but you waited till you zoomed and it had a bit of exposure issue before you highlighted it.
Not a very good review, sorry.

@SamiLuo at start thanks for great comparison. Anyone who owns Vivo X100U could confirm or decline this "blur" issues? Do you think it's just software and could be fixed or this might be something with hardware?

Apple, like Samsung by the way... are no longer in the dance when it comes to technological innovations in terms of photography and even video, they rely solely on what they have mastered for several years now. To change the situation it would be necessary to completely rethink their design, to put in some good hardware, which could not suit the fans... Chinese brands, for less than 5 years, I exclude Huawei unfortunately which was put out of the race in its firmament, do not embarrass themselves with that and are catching up and innovating year after year. Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi which remains for me a sure value in terms of versatility, it still lacks a little consistency but we will definitely get there with a little time with next gen. In this comparison he is not the best (and again everything is relative) in 2 or 3 compartments but excellent everywhere. For me 14U the most balanced right now. Thanks for your analyzes and feedback.
