How Does CAPTAIN AMERICA's Shield Always Come Back to Him? || NerdSync

Captain America's weapon of choice is his iconic shield! He is so incredibly skilled with it that he can throw it, bounce it off multiple surfaces and enemies, and then have it almost magically return to him. But how does Captain America's shield always seem to come back to him? The simple answer here is that Cap knows his shield so intimately that he can predict how it will react when thrown at different angles, speeds, and distances. He also has the mental capacity to calculate trajectories on the fly.

However, this was not always the case. In the early 60s, Iron Man gave Cap's shield a high-tech upgrade complete with a magnetic glove that would allow Cap to throw his shield, have it do all sorts of maneuvers, and then have it return to him. And it looks like Avengers: Age of Ultron might be borrowing from that!

Tie-Ins are quick and snappy videos that take a look at some fun facts and concepts surrounding comics!

That shield does not obey the laws of physics at all! ;-)

I prefer the "mastery of the weapon" version.

If I had to pick one, I'd pick the explanation of Cap just being super skillful with the shield. Still, the technology one does give added credibility and it would make sense for him to try and get any edge he can, since it seems that the magnet thing would allow him to retrieve his shield when it is not moving. For me, I'd like him to use both.

When Cap died, Hawkeye was asked to be his replacement for a couple of reasons, one of them being that he was a marksman and that if he wielded the shield, he wouldn't lose a finger like most people would.

Vibranium that absorbs the kinetic energy will allow it to bounce. Screw logic.

Wow, I always wondered how his whole boomerang shield thingy worked. The fact that it happens simply by Cap knowing the balance and feel of the shield makes it one of the coolest things ever!

In a post civil war comic book about the thunderbolts there is a character called Jack Flag. He was a sidekick of sort to Captain America many moons ago. In a fight with the Thunderbolts Jack threw a manhole cover at Songbird. He was memorizing what Cap taught him: "Don't aim at the target. Aim where the target is going to be. The shield is not your weapon, timing and your surroundings are. Use them well". This indicates that Cap has a certain technique/techniques to throw the shield. Maybe the super serum enhanced brain and reflexes can plan out every throw quickly and carefully. Maybe the shields structure and the materials its made of are made so the shield can bounce of of things and act like a boomerang. Maybe the actual throw is curved. Maybe the shield has some sort of special magnetic field which changes the shields reaction to throws and collisions with objetcs. Maybe im just a big nerd overthinking about a fictional object and the shield is just magic...  wait, magic? MOPEE!

Cap is a shield master. To know that he can throw it with only his skills and no tech is so cool!

It would be fun to see a sort of comic book blooper where cap is ticked off because he had to go get his shield all day. Or it being stuck in a tree or something.

I clicked on this video mumbling the Captain America theme to myself, so you can imagine my disorientation when the video started doing the same, almost like an echo.

I did not know that lore before now. That is interesting. Thanks everyone at Nerdsync Productions for all the hard work you do.

I always assumed it was a combination of the two, he had the skill to throw it in such a way as to make it return in his general direction and the magnets did the rest as soon as it was in range

I like the magnetic tech kit part but I like that Captain America took it off and stopped using the tech, even better. I like smart heroes.

I like the skill idea better since I think it fits his idea of a man being the best he can by himself not through tech.

I think it's because the super soldier syrum gave him advanced intellect and lets him "see faster" he can calculate where the shield is going. I think the magnetic shield just means that stark is now benefacting the avengers.
Great vid mate

I like the idea that Steve is just such a master at using his shield.  In anyone else' hands its just a hard shield, but in Steve's hands it has endless potential.

I like the idea of mixing it, him masterfully using his knowledge of his shield and the magnet
